II. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project "MATHalino akong bata!" extends an introductory educational session using modules
that incorporates Mathematics and endeavors to increase children's knowledge from ages 6 to 8. Since it
is given that we are still under a pandemic, it is advised to convey activities that utilize no physical human
interaction to spread the virus. Both safety and education are prioritized in this project. Therefore, basic
mathematical modules and flashcards will be used by the children. Various exercises in their designated
modules have been devised to ensure a thorough understanding.

Mathematics was appointed as the principal part of the modules. In the first week, basic
mathematical content and stories in the module, including a set of flashcards, will be given to the
community's thirty children. It will serve as an opening activity. This will excite the children's curiosity and
increase their enthusiasm for the following week in receiving their new modular set.

Easy topics will be covered to accommodate the children's mental development since an age
restriction of 6 to 8 has been specified. These topics comprise basic operations: addition, subtraction,
multiplication, division, and mathematical stories for the child to comprehend further. Fractions shall be
the last problem to examine the children's knowledge.

If the children have difficulties answering the given module, they must write their questions on
their module's blank page. Rest guaranteed that the Mapúa CWTS students will thoroughly give them a
clear explanation for them to understand.

III. PROJECT RATIONALE

The greatest legacy parents can give to their children is education. Unfortunately, one of the challenges
our country is struggling to tackle is illiteracy due to poverty. However, poverty-stricken or not, because of its
intangibility, knowledge is the foremost thing a person can attain, indicating that no one in this world can steal such
treasure. Even awareness is capable of contributing to poverty reduction in the Philippines.

Therefore, the social status of an individual will be of no hindrance to his or her acquisition of information
with the required amount of effort. However, learning mathematics also causes anxiety and dislike, despite one's
strong motivation to learn. Also, that is the problem this project seeks to solve. With the expertise acquired by
Mapúa University's CWTS students, who were able to complete their incompetent and private academic institutions
in their primary and secondary schools, defining this project's objectives is certain to provide the efficiency of CWTS
students as mentors.

This project aims further to develop the mathematical skills of the participants to be educated
academically. In some applications, it also helps to teach children the importance of mathematics. Also, considering
their complexity, the project promotes taking delight in learning mathematics. The children will fail to focus away
from their teachers with thought-provoking questions and advanced study guides as they will be motivated to
understand the subjects that will be tackled.

The prize committee will distribute productivity prizes such as school supplies and snacks. It is an extent
to assess further the child's urge to learn more about mathematics. At the beginning of the modular session, the
children will read an introductory mathematical story to encourage them to have a simple overview of the lessons
that will be taught. After that, the adults in their household will utilize the given flashcards given to their children to
assess their mathematical skills further. Once the child finishes the given activities, they will receive a school supply
package that contains a notebook, two pencils, a sharpener, and an eraser. Snacks consisting of a sandwich and
water must be given at the end of each week.
