Differentiate impossible and sure event.

For my understanding if the probability of occurrence of an event is 0, such an event is called an

impossible event and if the probability of occurrence of an event is 1, it is called a sure event.

An event is impossible if it can never occur. An event is possible if there is a chance it may

occur. An event is certain if it will always occur.

Classic examples and scenarios that a probability event occurs.

 If there is a chance that an event will happen, then its probability is between zero and 1.

Examples of Events: tossing a coin and it landing on heads. Tossing a coin and it landing

on tails.

 As it is unpredictable, you can never give it an exact value / probability. For example,

you couldn't predict the probability of you falling down a flight of stairs in the next ten

years, as that's a completely random event.

 On a spinner that has four colors occupying equally sized spaces, there is a one in four

probability it will land on any one color.

1. Find the error in the statement: "The probability that it will rain tomorrow is 0.40 and the

probability that it will not rain tomorrow is 0.52."

It will either rain or not rain, there are no other possibilities so the sum of the two probabilities

must equal 1.
2. A pair of dice is tossed. Find the probability of getting

A pair of dice is tossed and it is a total of 8 because when the angle is turned 360 degrees to the

south rotated to the side and flipped left.

A. a total of 8 (ANSWER) B. At most a total of 5

3. If A, B and C are mutually-exclusive events and P (A) =0.2, P (B) = 0.3, and P(C) =0.2

The events are mutually exclusive, so P (A union B union C) is just P (A) +P (B) +P(C) =

0.2+0.3+0.2 = 0.7

Again since the events are mutually exclusive, (A complement) intersect (B union C) is just B

union C; so P [(A complement) intersect (B union C)] is P (B union C) = P (B) +P(C) = 0.3+0.2 = 0.5

4. The probability that an industry will locate cebu is 0.7, the probability that it will locate in

either cebu or davao or both is 0.8 what is the probability that the industry will locate

The probability that the industry will locate in both cities is 1.1
5. Two cards are drawn in succession from a deck without replacement. What is the

probability that both cards are greater than 2 and less than 8?

Assuming no replacement of drawn cards and a randomly shuffled deck, probability of a red ace

= 2/52 = 1/26. Subsequent probability of a ten or a jack = 8/51. Subsequent probability of a 4, 5

or 6 = 12/50 = 6/25. Probability of 3 such outcomes occurring in a sequence as requested =

(1/26)*(8/51)*(6/25) = 48/33,150 = .001447963…~ .14%

If drawn cards are replaced, probability of a red ace remains = 1/26. Probability of a ten or jack

= 8/52 = 2/13. Probability of a 4, 5 or 6 -12/52 = 3/13. Probability of these 3 outcomes in

sequence = (1/26)*(2/13)*(3/13) = 6/4,394 = .001365498…~ .137%
