1.1 Definition of physics


A. Meaning of physics
- Physics is the branch of natural science that studies about matter, energy and their interaction.
- A person who studies physics is called physicist
Eg of some known physicists. Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday, James Prescott Joule, Marie curie …..
etc
B. Purpose of studying physics studying
- Physics helps to understand concepts, relationships, and laws of nature, do experiments, to formulate
and check theories, solve real life problems …… etc.
C. Area of study where physical does not address
- Field of studies like history, politics, religion, civics and ethical education do not require knowledge
of physics and are not directly related to physics.
D. Main goal of studying physics
- It is to gain a better understanding of the world around you and things in it. By doing so, you discover
facts. Form scientific concepts, theories laws, principles and r/ship.
E. Re/ship of physics to other sciences
- Biophysics = combination of Biology and physics,
- Geophysics = is a combination of Geology and Physics
F. Branches of physics
- Physics is divided in to different branches
Eg: Mechanics, Sound, Optics Electricity and Magnetism, Heat, Nuclear Physics, Astrophysics --- etc
