Matching Students to

Library their Reading Level

Every child learns at a different pace and what is right for one child may not be right for another, even at
the same age. It’s important that children are reading at the level that is appropriate for their ability, but is
still challenging enough to develop and improve their skills.

Highlights Library offers a personalized approach for matching students with their appropriate reading
level. An initial placement uses the student’s age to determine a starter reading level, and then assigns
a custom reading level match based on their responses to a set of age-appropriate questions. The
question types include vocabulary identification, sentence comprehension, sentence fill-in and short
passages, and include audio for younger-aged children.
