METHOD STATEMENT FOR GR. 25 MASS CONCRETE FILLING AND WATERPROOFING BELOW RAFT FOUNDATION
AND TUNNEL WALL AT PART 3-5 AND 5-5 IN ZONE S10
Introduction:
The area beside the existing Tunnel Walls, which partially built by the previous contractor left some raft
foundation unconstructed including the waterproofing. The existing condition at site that rock was cast over by a
mass concrete with two stages of waterproofing. In this regard we will carry out the same sequence in to
complete till to the raft as follows :
1. Remove unsuitable materials and other debris in the area over the rock and beside the Tunnel Wall and
offer to the consultant for inspection of ground preparation/readiness.
2. Once approved, fill the area/void with Gr. 25 mass concrete in stages (as per .the attached t,ke'*hl \a_: th: ~

3. Last stage of mass concrete fill ing sh ~he existing rebars (which protrude from the
existing Tunnel Wall) in order to allow for a working space during waterproofing works below those dowel
bars.
4. After casting and the area is cured, an inspection will be offered to the consultant for approval prior to the
f irst stage of waterproofing (as per the approved details) . Once HOPE is laid, consultant will inspect for it
readiness prior to casting of lOOmm blinding.

5. Blinding will be laid over by the 2"d stage of waterproofing as per details and sequence of the work.
~~ is laid below HOPE and will be inspected by the consultant prior to covering by another layer of
~ V(\"- geotextile and SOmm screed will then to proceed for protection of the waterproofing membrane.
~~ 6. All the termination or end of waterproofing shall be tuck in the existing Tunnel Wall and will be sealed
using approved joint sealant materials. An Aluminum flashing shall be installed for the whole length prior
to casting of raft foundation.
7. Prior to casting of raft foundation, the gap below the existing started bars of Tunnel Wall, which having a
large concrete cover, a single a layer of bars (both ways in X andY direction) will be provided for provision
of crack control at this portion.
8. Construction of raft shall be then carried out thereafter and will be submitted the Method Statement in a
separate submittal.

3. Last stage of mass concrete filling shall stop at 0.75m below the existing rebars (which protrude from the
existing Tunnel Wall) in order to allow for a working space during waterproofing works below those dowel
bars.
4. After casting and the area is cured, an inspection will be offered to the consultant for approval prior to the
first stage of waterproofing (as per the approved details). Once HDPE is laid, consultant will inspect for it
readiness prior to casting of 100mm blinding.
