Goal (s): Students and teachers achieved the goals of this course during the 2019-2020
academic year.
General Objectives: Students and teachers achieved the general objectives during the 2019-
2020 academic year.
Content Topics: Content topics were appropriate for this course for the academic year 2019-
2020.
1. Reading Comprehension- Teachers used appropriate teaching techniques and
strategies to deliver content for reading comprehension. Students were able to
become effective readers before, during, and after reading. Teachers planned,
monitored, and evaluated students reading comprehension.
2. Vocabulary- Reading comprehension builds students writing and speaking skills
hence the significance of vocabulary in the course outline. Topics such as context
clues, synonyms, antonyms, related words, prefixes, suffixes, etc. were adequate
in building student’s writing through vocabulary and growth of eloquence in
speaking.
3. Grammar and Mechanics- Facilitated students in becoming fluent speakers and
writers of the Standard English language.
(i) Parts of Speech: Teachers taught the seven parts of speech for students to
have the knowledge and proper use of it.
(ii) Subject Verb Agreement: The agreement requires the subject to agree in
number and person with the verb. Students were able to identify
compound, singular, plural subjects. As well as collective nouns as
subjects, and use gerunds as subjects.
(iii) Phrases: A phrase is one or more words that form a meaningful
grammatical unit within a clause. Students were able to learn the five main
types of phrases.
(iv)Clauses: A clause is a group of words that includes a subject and a verb.
Students learned to identify independent/ insubordinate, dependent/
subordinate clauses. Teachers recommend adjustments to this topic. (under
recommendations)
(v) Tenses: It was important for students to revise the tenses to point out the
right time and the continuation or completeness of an action or state in
relation to the time of speaking.
(vi) Punctuation: Punctuation helps the reader understand the message
conveyed. Students learned the use of punctuation, indicate the pauses,
and the emphasis on ideas or thoughts.
4. Language Structure: Students learned the importance of forming well-written
sentences. One of the first steps toward a sound education is being able to read
and write. Writing progresses from simple to complex sentences gaining the
ability to write well, clear speech, and thought processes. Teachers recommend
adjustments. (See recommendations)
5. Journals: Students documented their personal and academic growth. A positive
way for students to develop their English language lexicon and syntax.

The number of assessments and weighting for the second semester remains the same.
OVERALL VIEW
The overall view for the 3rd form English A Course Outline was that the outline needs minor
changes and that it is appropriate for student’s level.
