1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Project Outline

Project Name : Penilsula Yangon Project

Location : Yangon Myanmar

Client : Penilsula Yangon Limited (PYL)

Contractor : Byma Myanmar Co., Ltd.

Sub-Contractor : Techno-rays Engineering Co., Ltd.

Construction Period : 48 Calendar Months

1.2 SCOPE OF WORK

This method of statement covers work related to describe fire fighting


works(INCLUDE ARCHI PLAN ONLY) associated with installation of external and internal
fire water and foam piping, fire pump station, foam pump station, external fire hydrants,
extinguisher, sprinkler system, hose-reel system for all building and fire alarm system works
associated with installation of external and internal horn strobe light, manual call points,
alarm bell, heat, smoke and beam detector, cabling for fire alarm system of the Penilsula
Yangon Project.

2. PURPOSE

The purpose of this construction method is to provide guidance on the required works
to construct the buildings and external works of Penilsula Yangon Project in order to
achieve the require quality, safety and timely completion as per schedule. A full investigation
by a Qualified Project Engineer and Planning Engineer will be required prior to any works
commencing on construction works. This proposed construction method document noted
above should be read in conjunction the reference contract documents, drawings and
specification. Any discrepancies between this information and current conditions on site
should be reported to the Employer immediately.

This method of statement is prepared to ensure that construction of buildings for the
project shall comply on plans specifications and all relevant standard and code requirements
in the execution of different work activities to be performed in the construction of buildings
and other relevant structure associated with the project in general. In addition this will serve

as tool guide all technical personnel and layman execute proper construction producers
complied with the quality and safety plans for the project.

3.0 SEQUENCE OF WORK

3.1 FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM

3.1.1 Material

- Fire water and foam pipe and fitting


- Fire water and foam pump, Jockey pump
- Gate valve, Butterfly Valve, Ball Valve, Check Valve
- Fire Hydrants, Hose pipe, Hose cabinet, Jet nozzle
- Extinguisher
- Sprinkler Head, Foam pourer
- Bolts and Nuts
- Paint, glue, accessories,… etc.

3.1.2 Preparation

- Task launch meeting will be held by Engineer in charge of the works with all the staff
concerned by this activity to explain and remind for the Method Statement (MS),
Inspection & Testing Plan (ITP),Safety.
- Fire Water Pipe, Foam Pipe and fitting for external and internal are bought to the site
and inspected by authorized person by BYMA ENGINEER.

3.1.3 Sequence of Work

3.1.3.1 General Installation

PIPE WORK INSTALLATION

- Ensure the materials are approved by Consultant


- Ensure the mounting detail are approved by Consultant
- Ensure the CSD drawings are approved by Consultant
- Mark the location of the bracket support on slab/floor base on
- Ensure the bracket spacing is accordance CP and approved
- Drilling of hole upon confirmation of routing and spacing
- Painting of pipe work
- Installation of Piping
- Pressure testing
- Workmanship Inspection

UNDERGOROUND PIPE WORK INSTALLATION

- Ensure the materials are approved by consultant


- Ensure the installation detail are approved by Consultant
- Ensure the CSD drawings are approved by Consultant
- Identify the pipe routing on site base on the CSD drawings
- Once the location has being confirm, excavator will be use to excavate the earth.
- The pipe trench will be excavate to a 1.4M depth
- The underground pipe will then be lay section onto the base of the trench w/o base
concrete. Once completed the pipe will then be connected together
- A brick spacer will be use to provide a gap between the trench base and the bottom of
pipe
- Stump form work will be erected at a interval of every 1.5M. The size of the stump
will be 400x400M sq. and top will be extended 100mm on top of pipe
- Workmanship inspection
- Casting of stump using Grade 25 concrete to fill up until the 100mm on top the piping
- Allows 24hrs for the Concrete stump to cure
- Dismantle the formwork and back fill the trench expose the join area for pressure
testing checking
- Pressure testing to 300PSI for 24hrs
- Once pressure testing approved, trench will be back fill with good earth and
compaction will be done at every 500mm back fill
- Compaction will be completed until the existing ground level

PUMPS INSTALLATION

- Ensure the materials are approved by Consultant


- Ensure the mounting detail are approved by Consultant
- Ensure the CSD drawings are approved by Consultant
- Mark the pipe routing of the bracket support on floor /slab as per CSD and shop
drawings
- Installation of inertia block and spring as per approved shop drawings
- Installation of Pumps, Fittings and piping accordance with approved drawings
- Pump Balancing
- Painting
- Workmanship Inspection

EQUIPMENTS AND CONTOL PANELS INSTALLATION

- Ensure the materials are approved by consultant


- Ensure the mounting detail are approved by consultant
- Ensure the CSD drawings are approved by consultant
- Installation of conceal conduit accordance with the approved shop drawing
- Surface installation mark the location of the bracket on slab/wall
- To make sure surface finish (skim coat plaster) done properly
- Install saddles base and brackets
- Ensure FR cables are used
- Install conduct/tray/trunking
- Installation of cables and field devices
- Ensure min 40% free space in trunking
- To carry out cable Resistance Test
- Using right size of cable lug for the termination of power cables
- Ensure cables are secre properly on tray/trunking
- Workmanship Inspection

WELDING STANDARD AND PROCEDURE

- Ensure the materials are approved by Consultant


- Ensure the mounting detail are approved by Consultant
- Ensure the welder got valid welding certification
- Submit welder certificate to Consultant
- Ensure the two pipe joint are level using a level gauge
- Inspection of joint & welding gap alightment after tag weld
- 1st and 2nd run welding
- 3rd run of welding and apply protection coat
- Pressure testing

3.2 FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

3.2.1 Material

3.2.2 Preparation

- Task launch meeting will be held by Engineer in charge of the works with all the staff

Inspection & Testing Plan (ITP), Safety.
- Main Fire Alarm Panel, Sub-Fire Alarm Panel, FR Cable and Fixture for external and
internal are bought to the site and inspected by authorized person by BYMA
ENGINEER.

3.2.3 Sequence of Work

3.2.3.1 General Installation

CONCEALED CONDUITS INSTALLATION WORK


- Check Routing conduit & Junction Box Follow Shop Drawing Approve
- Check Level Floor Finish and Dimension Finish
- Installation Junction Box &Metal Conduit
- Check all the concealed conduit works are in proper order before the commencement
of casting works.

CONDUITS INSTALLATION IN LIGHT WEIGHT PARTIATION

- WallMark location of switches and outlet boxes on brick walls according to


- approved shop drawings.
- To cut the brick wall accurately the two marked lines and chipping
- Covering with polyfoam to prevent mortar plaster entering the boxes
- Filling the gap between conduits, boxes and groove.

EXPOSED CONDUITS INSTALLATION WORK

- The routing of exposed conduits shall be according to approve shop drawings.


- Install the Metal conduits in straight runs and without any diagonal layout.
- Use the saddles to held the exposed conduits in the right position wall.

CABLE PULLING WORK

- After finishing the checking and cleaning conduit well, the cable can be pulled in conduit to
respective point.

ALARM BELL, HORNS, STROBE LIGHT AND MANUAL CALL INSTALLATION

- The alarm bell, Horns, Strobe Light and Manual call install at specified mounted level
according to the shop drawing and respective site engineer.

MAIN FIRE ALARM PANEL AND SUB-FIRE ALARM PANEL INSTALLTION

- The Main Fire Alarm Panel have one loop for alarm bell, horns, strobe light, manual
call points, Heat detector, smoke detector, beam detector. The Sub-alarm panel have
two number and each panel have one loop for alarm bell, horns, strobe light, manual
call points, heat detector, smoke detector, beam detector. The installation of FAP is
specified according to the shop drawing.

5.0 SAFETY RISK

5.1 Working at Heights and Safe Access

Safety harness and lanyards must be worn by all personal who work at a place from which
they are liable to fall into water or at a height of more than 2 meters.

5.2 Grinding

- Wear eye protection


- Do not wear gloves
- Be sure that the sparks are not directed at people or flammable materials.
- Once the grinding is finished turn the grinders off.
- Never leave the grinding when it is running.

5.3 General Safety Rules

- Hose-play, Housekeeping, Pollution Prevention, Matches and Lighters.

5.4 Safety and Operation Meeting

A daily meeting will be given to you prior to the beginning of each work days. These
meetings are designed to keep your updated on current events and plans. They will tell you of
hazardous areas where extra care is required. The correct way to do a task to prevent injury to yourself
or others will be explained clearly to you.

5.5 Specific Safety Requirements

The safety requirements for electrical works are:

- The safety belts to be worn when working at height.


- Goggles to be worn when using disc cutters.
- Proper safety shoes or boots to be worn on site.
- Ensure all exposed electrical wiring to be off before proceeding to terminate accessories.
- Ensure all exposed electrical wiring to be tested with a test pen by team leader before
proceeding works on related circuit.
- Ensure that all exposed electrical wiring to be taped or fitted with a connector after testing.
- Ensure that one layer of flexible cable add in before using extension wire for protection the
wire damage.
- Treat all conductors-even “de-energized” one -as if they are energized until they are locked
out and tagged by team leader.
- Lock out and tag out circuits and manchines.
- Prevent exposure to live electrical parts by isolating them.
- Prevent shocking currents from electrical systems and tools by grounding them.
- Prevent too much current in circuits by using over current protection devices.
- When pull the cable, workers need to wear hand gloves. Proper tools to cut the cable, and
need to use ladder to pull the lighting points.
- After finished work, workers need to do housekeeping (example: dispose/remove all left over
unwanted materials)
- Before using the scaffold, ensure check by scaffold supervisor.

7.0 INSPECTION AND TEST PLAN

7.1 FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM

7.1.1 Fire Hydrants System

- Ensure all installation of equipment, panels and devices are completed.


- Ensure all piping and hydrants installation are completed.
- Ensure system have being pressure test and approved.
- Ensure water tank are fill and power is turn on.

- Ensure all equipment have been tested internally.
- Set the duty pump to auto mode, discharge the pressure at the testing pipe drain valve and
observe the pressure drop. Once the pressure drops to the CUT IN setting the duty pump will
active.
- Set the both pump to the auto mode, discharge the water from the most un-favourable hydrant
point from the pump set.

7.1.2 Automatic Sprinkler System

- Ensure all installation of equipment, panels and devices are completed.


- Ensure all piping and sprinkler heads installation are completed.
- Ensure system have being pressure test and approved.
- Ensure water tank are fill and power is turn on.
- Ensure all equipment have been tested internally.
- Set the duty pump to auto mode, discharge the pressure at the testing pipe drain valve and
observe the pressure drop. Once the pressure drops to the CUT IN setting the duty pump will
active. (Repeater the steps for the standard pump)
- Set the both pump to the auto mode, discharge the water from the control valve drain valve to
carry-out the proving testing.
- Control the flow rate to achieve the require flow and check the pressure gauge reading and
ensure it higher than the design pressure.
- Bursting of sprinkler head testing, activation of flow switch signal will be send to Fire Alarm
System.

7.2 FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

7.2.1 Type of initiating devices used in this project and their test methods are as follows:

- Smoke Detector- Apply SOLO Aerosol in the smoke detector chamber until red LED glows
steady.
- Heat Detector- Switch on and place the heat run covering the detector until the LED glows
steady.
- Manual Call Point- Open the manual call point using simplex key.
- Sprinkler Flow Switch- Open the test drain valve until fire alarm control panel receives
FIRE signal. (Sprinkler supplier coordination required).

7.2.2 Voice Evacuation shall be tested by the following method:

- Create any fire alarm in the area.


- Check all alarm bell and horns in the external and internal voice evacuation zone functioning.
- Check the audibility and voice clarity.
- All alarm bell and horns for each zone will be tested at least once during detectors test for
each voice evacuation zone.

7.2.3 Function test of devices shall be carried out loop by loop as follows:

- Activate the devices described in 7.2.1 one by one.


- The test will be printed in the printer which is located in CCR room.

- If the test is successful, move to the next device and continue the test until all devices are
tested in the loop.
- If all devices tested successfully in one loop, move to the next loop and continue in the same
manner.
- If the “Alarm Silence” button is pressed, it will stop all notifications and an “Alarm Silence in
Progress” message will show in the fire alarm panel prior to stop the appliances.
- If the “System Reset” button is pressed, “System Reset in Progress” message will display and
reset will take place. Alarm will be cleared after a successful reset or the panel will show a
message that “Alarm Present, System Reset Aborted”.

7.2.4 Function test of the interfaces

- Verify all interfaces are functioning in case of activation of corresponding initiating devices.
- Test shall be carried out in the sequence of loop by loop. It will be tested by activating any
detector or break glass in the loop and verify the following effects are taken place.
- It will be tested by activating one device in the building also, one manual call point will be
operated in each floor. The testing will be done as follows:
- PA System: Fire and Ensure that all speakers are working.
- Fire Fighting: Create Fire and ensure that the signal is going to the panel.

7.2.4 History Log

After successful testing of entire system a historical log shall be generated and printed for
review and comments for inspectors.

7.2.5 Walk Test

The system has a walk test feature which allows a signal person to test the devices. Walk test
enable will show as a trouble warning in the system and will be cleared after successful exit of walk
test. Walk test events also will be recorded in Main fire alarm panel. System will reset itself after
every device test.

7.2.6 Witness Demonstrations/Completion

After the successful commissioning the results will be recorded on the testing and
commissioning sheets attached with the documents.
