PLANTING BANANA (MUSA

PARADISIACA) USING SOIL-
BASED FERTIGATION

TRADE SECRET: TS2016/25/040

Problem Statement
• Low production yield of banana.
• Conventional banana cultivation often has
low and inconsistent yields.
• Inconsistent fertilization methods also
make crop yields non-uniform.
• Farmer rely on rainwater
• This causes the growth of the banana tree
to become unbalanced and thus disturb
the harvesting process.

Background of Study
• Banana cultivation often face the problem of low not
consistent in production.
• Inconsistent in fertilizer application also makes cropping
is not uniform and slow.
• Conventional cultivation of banana also rely on rainwater
alone.
• This problem causes the growth is not uniform and
disruptive harvesting process.
• Banana cultivation technology for fertigation technique is
one alternative to banana producers in overcoming this
problem.

Description of technology

•Production of banana using soil based

fertigation technique.
•Application of liquid fertilizer using drip
irrigation.
•Fertilizer, specially formulated for banana
production.

Novelty of innovations
• Fertilizer specially formulated that able
to enhanced banana plant growth and
yield.
• Application of liquid fertilizer using drip
irrigation.
• Synchronize harvesting
• Increase in yield (20%)

Usefulness of application

• Increase production of banana ( average 34

mt/ha compare to convensional menthod 27 mt
/ ha)

• High productivity

• Easy harvesting & Synchronize harvesting &

post harvest management

Economic impact

• Increased local production of banana -

reduces importation.
• Fulfill downstream industries
requirement
• Could create new opportunity for banana
ginger based product for foods and
beverages industries.
• Efficient way for managing fertilizers i.e.
reduce operation cost.

Potential users / commercial

potentialities
• Increased yield and farmers income
• It could create international business
opportunities.
• Also suitable for Bumi Hijau campaign.
