INTRODUCTION
Men in Black International was released in the USA on June 14, 2019. The manager is
F.Gary Gray, and Art Marcum was written by Matt Holloway. Men In Black is a series of
American science fiction action comedy film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. And base the on
Malibu/ Marvel comic book series The Men In Black by Lowell Cunningham, which was itself
based on the conspiracy theory. The production companies were Columbia Pictures, Amblim
Entertainment and more. There were 4 series in this movie. The first series was Men In Black
1997, Men In Black II 2002, Men In Black III 2012 and Men In Black: International 2019. The
movie series that we critique is from Men In Black: International 2019. The cast is Chris
Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Emma Thompsom, Liam Neeson, Kumail Nanjiani and more.
The interesting fact about this movie was the main cast which is Chris Hemsworth was also
popular with Marvel series THOR.

SYNOPSIS OF THE MOVIE

The scene chosen depicts a situation in which situations that have shown a
disproportionate working environment among some of the workers. Agent M is being of the
responsible workers for his job, and suddenly one of his colleagues interrupted him in his work
and Agent H apologizes to his boss for the mistake he made. Agent M want to join the MIB
because she wants to know about universe and save the planet. Besides that, they were
threatened by their boss to erase their memories. Agent M and agent H got new information
about that two aliens from Pawny.

CRITICAL INCIDENT 1: BEING RUDE
Scene 1 reveals, an unprofessional situation at work which is being rude because one
of the employees is sleeping and the other guy was eating snacks at their place, while not
respecting the other employee doing their job. Bad attitude is a bad or rude ethics while at work
that employee should avoid from daily routine. The attitude of the employee has shown that
they are not interested in the job so they lose respect for others like Molly. The effect is poor
work conduct can be bad for business by adversely impacting the morale and efficiency of
workers and by affecting the success of employees in their work. Recommendation to improve
is the employees should not eat and sleep at their workplace as it can interfere with
concentration while working. Besides, food waste can contaminate the cleanliness and
ventilation of the workplace.

CRITICAL INCIDENT 2: DISTURBING OTHERS DURING A CONVERSATION


Scene 2 reveals that when Molly is busy on the phone while updating her screen, her
co-worker unexpectedly sits beside her and interrupts her conversation and job. Molly felt a
little disturbed because she was busy doing work and her co-workers was busy body with Molly
and he felt curious to know Molly’s job. Molly’s co-worker disturbing her during a
conversation. Disturbing during a conversation one of bad attitude which is interruption refers
to a speech event when one person breaks in to interject while another person is talking. It can
be seen when Molly is on the phone busy updating screen, the co-workers suddenly approached
Molly and whispered and spelling "A-L-I-E-N-S" so that Molly felt disturbed because she was
often treated like that. The effect is certain people may be offended by such attitudes and feel
dissatisfied with the actions of certain workers. Recommended ways to improve is advise the
employee that they should ask permission when they want to interrupt other conversation to
use an interpersonal skill to interact with other people.

CRITICAL INCIDENT 3: BEING PATIENCE
Scene 3 reveals, While Agent H was scolded by his Sir. This because his Sir assumed
that Agent H was capable of being the leader of the place and felt remorse for the assumption,
but with a professional ethics he remains patience and administrates their errors, he answered
his word with a request to apologize for letting him down. Agent H is being patience. Being
patience is considered as one of professional behavior. Professional behavior encompasses the
personal and corporate standards of behavior expected by professionals. It can be seen when
he said “me apologize for letting you down and gave me a chance to fix this, I promise you”.
He was patience and quickly apologized to ease the situation. According to a 2007 study by
Fuller Theological Seminary professor Sarah A. Schnitker and UC Davis psychology
professor Robert Emmons, patient people tend to experience less depression and negative
emotions, perhaps because they can cope better with upsetting or stressful situations. Agent
H asked to be given a chance to fix everything. The effect is their Sir scold at both and he said
to agent H that ‘we are done here, and I was wrong about you’. Recommended way to improve
professional ethics such being patience like accountability that the employees need to practice
in workplace.

CRITICAL INCIDENT 4: MANIPULATIVE COMUNICATION


In the scene 4 showed that High T is questioning Agent M and Agent H on why Hive
sending people to kill The Jababians although they know who is Vungus. High T questioning
that does Hive need something from them. Agent C asserted that these two agents had failed in
their mission. High T are seeming to be frustrated. Agent C wanted to proceed with article 13
which is termination and follow by neutralize. The two Agent dint want to be neutralized, so
Agent M said that she had an important information. For analysis, Agent M is seen to be very
manipulative. It can be seen on what she behaves with caution and said, ‘because if you erase
us, you will never get the truth’. She quickly came up with a great idea to save themselves from
Article 13. Agent M know how to take an advantage by using this idea. Even though that this
communication skill is quiet cunning, but somehow it works well in this critical moment.
Application of Theory: Based on Claire Newton (2011), Manipulative communicators are
skilled at influencing or controlling others to their own advantage. Their spoken words hide an
underlying message, of which the other person may be totally unaware. They know how to
manipulate the information for their own benefits. The effect listened to what Agent M said,
High T chance his mind and instructed Agent C to put away the neutralize tool. They are saved

from being fired and neutralized, but their boss and Agent C feel annoyed that they are being
threatened like that. For the recommendation, he employees need to know how to manipulate
in communication as well because sometimes, it can save them from be bully.

CRITICAL INCIDENT 5: BEING HONEST


Scene 5 showed that Agent M interested to work with MIB but Agent O reject and said
that the position only for people that had be recruited. “do you mind giving me one good
reason?” Agent O want Agent M to give reason for her working with MIB. Agent M
confidently said that she was smart, motivated and look good on black. But for Agent O, this
reason is boring. Agent M honestly said that she did not have life. She did not have pet and
have nothing to walk away from make her suit for this job. Agent O said that her life was tragic
and keep questioning her whether she had love or being in a relationship. Agent M answering
that its only make her distract from important thing. Agent O being curios about what Agent
M said important thing and Agent M said it is the truth of the universe. She wants to know
everything on how the universe work. Application of theory: Being honest mean that you are
straightforward, telling the truth without misleading. Employees are encouraged to share their
concerns, ideas, opinions openly without need to manipulate. Honest showed that how maturity
and self-acceptance. This communication makes Agent O start to trust on her. The effect is
after heard Agent M honest reason, Agent O feel pity on Agent M and decided to take her work
with MIB. For the recommendation employees need to have good confident at the workplace
so that people around them will generate trust and feel good to work together.

CRITICAL INCIDENT 6: SMALL TALK


In this scene, Agent H and Agent M was shocked to see the situation around the
destroyed place. Suddenly, there was a pond that being aggressive. The pond warning them to
not move or he will shoot them. Both agents told the pond to calm down. Agent H politely
asking the pond his name and continued by Agent M before start asking the pond on what were
happen. Application of theory: small talk is a polite conversation about unimportant things or
uncontroversial matter, especially in social occasion. It is significant part of creating that social
connection. It is usually about daily matters. When Agent H said, “hey look at you, what do
we call you smart?” the pond response back and said, “smart is not what they call me”. It made

the ponds calm down started to have interest to speak with the agents. The effect is Agent M
do not know who Pawny and what happen to him. That pond became friendly with strangers
and he started chatting with the Agents. For the recommendation, small talk can make someone,
or officemate feel relax and chill when start chatting with each other. It provided quite lot
information and showed that the employee is friendly.

CONCLUSION
What we must learn from the movie was that not every attitudes and communication
are suitable for working area. We must know how to differentiate between professional and
unprofessional behaviour in the workplace. We also need to know how to impress ourselves
when we are working. Based on the movie, there are several behaviour and communication
skills that we can apply in our daily life. All of this can help us to be more success and confident
in front of everyone.
