During fattening period of pigs, feeding system is vital to achieved the nutritional
requirements and marketable weight. Ad libitum (feeding without limit) may fed at this stage,
with the used of self- feeder or automatic feeds. The feeders must be emptied and cleaned
every two to three days to prevent microbial spoilage and eventual wastage and disease.
Restricted(feeding with limit) feeding may also be used, which satisfies only about 80%of the
appetite of the pigs of the amount used in ad libitum feeding. Feeding is done only two to three
times a day.
When shifting of a new feed type introduced at 25% of the total amount of feed on day
one, then increased by 25% daily until it becomes 100% of the total feed on day four.
There are two types of feeding in pigs the dry feeding and wet feeding. Wet feeding is
adding water to the dry feed, often two to three times the weight of the feed. Wet feeding
increase feed intake, digestibility of food, and reduces feed wastage.
