Part A- Introduction

I. Course Code and Title : HRM-406/HRM-4123, Human Resource Information System


II. Credit : 3 credit hours
1. Course Summary

This course is designed to provide an introduction to the use of technology in the


administration of human resources, and how new technologies can contribute significantly to
the efficiencies in the management of a company’s human capital. Information technology is
expected to drive Human Resource (HR)'s transition from a focus on Human Resource
Management. (HRM) to Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM). This strategic role
not only adds a valuable dimension to the HR function, but also raises the competency of HR
practitioners. This programme provides an introduction to the theory and application of
Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS). At the end of the course, participants will
understand the key features of an HRIS and how organizations can gain competitive advantage
by leveraging on technology. Participants will learn about different types of HRIS, as well as
practical experience in using an open source HR Information System. Participants will enjoy
complimentary access to a beta version of the HRIS system which will be used during the
programme.

2. Course Objectives

After completing of this course, students will be able to do the following


 Thoroughly review and understand the basic concepts and principles of training HRIS
and to demonstrate the ability to apply learned knowledge to the real world.
 Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the strategic value of HRIS and how it
contributes to organizational success.
 Review and identify the leading HRIS software available in the field.
 Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the RFP process for selecting an HRIS system.

5. ASSESSMENT PATTERN
Quizzes:
Altogether 2 quizzes may be taken during the semester, 1 quiz will be taken for
midterm and 1 quiz will be taken for final term. Out of this 2 quiz for each term best
1 quiz will be counted. No makeup quizzes will be taken. Students are strongly recommended
not to miss any quizzes.

Tests:
Altogether 2 tests may be taken during the semester, 1 test will be taken for midterm

Assignment:

The students will have to form a group of maximum 4 members. The topic or case
studies will be given as assignment in groups during the class which they have to
prepare at home and will submit on or before the due date. No late submission of
assignments will be accepted. Students will have to do the presentation on the given
topic as assignment.

Grades will be calculated as per the university grading structure and individual student will be
evaluated based on the following criteria with respective weights.
