COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A number of recent developments, including demographic changes in the labor force, increased global
competition, experiments with new organizational arrangements, and public policy attention to work
force issues have made human resource management increasingly important for organizations. This
course delivers an introduction to the key functions of human resource management, including
compensation and benefits, staffing, recruitment and selection, labor relations, training and
development, health and safety, planning, employment equity and performance management.

UNFAIR MEANS DURING EXAM
Students are not allowed to keep bags, handouts, books, mobile phones, smart watches or any other
smart electronic devices with them during any exam. Students are advised to keep everything in the
front of the classroom before the exam starts. Please note that, just carrying any smart electronic devises
(even if the devise is turned off or put it in silent mode) during the exam will be considered as "cheating".
Moreover, during the exam, anything written on hand palms (or anywhere else) and carrying paper
materials (whatever is written) will be considered as "cheating". Any sorts of "cheating" will result in
an "F" grade with no exception. During the exam, students are only allowed to carry pen, pencil, eraser,
sharpener, ruler, highlighter and calculator in a clear plastic bag.

GRADING POLICY:
The following scheme should be followed in assigning final grade for the course.
WITHDRAWAL ('W'):
A 'W' grade means withdrawal. A student may decide to withdraw from the course by the deadline.
Students must apply to the Program Office for withdrawal from a course with the permission of the
concerned course instructor, Academic Advisor, and the Dean. Withdrawal from only one course in a
semester is allowed but the students should provide valid reason along with documents while applying
for the withdrawal.
MAKE UP POLICY:
Any legitimate absence (major illness, death in the family) in the scheduled exam needs proof for further
consideration. Based on the legal documents further action well be taken off; therefore, students have to
give real document with proper explanation.
PEDAGOGY
The course will comprise a mixture of formal lectures and case studies followed by group discussions.
Students are advised to actively participate in class.
QUIZZES:
All quizzes will be announced in advance and would consist of MCQ or short questions.
CASE DEVELOPMENT:
This is a group assignment. Each group is required to develop a case, based on the real problems of a
selected company/industry currently operating in Bangladesh. Further details with materials will be
discussed in the class. Assessment of the case development will be done through case reports and
classroom presentation. Presentation of the report is a coordinated session and the date of the
presentation will be announced later. However, students must form a group in the beginning of the
semester (3-4 members), which will last for the whole semester. Solving of class room cases and home
assignments will be performed in group manner. It is important to note that, absence in class room cases
by any group member cannot be compensated by the participation of other members.

MID-TERM & FINAL EXAM:
Exams will be taken as per schedule of the registrar office and will notify publicly in advance, students are
advised to follow the notice board both in physical and electronic medium. The syllabus for exams already
exhibited in the course contents. Moreover, students are supposed to focus more on conceptual
understanding rather than just memorizing.
Note: The course outline can be changed if required. Some deviations or changes from this schedule
may occur due to unavoidable circumstances.
