Linear Algebra - Math 1002

- Webwork
Vector Spaces = can be added and scaled

and linear transformation= functions respect addition and scale

R = real numbers = scalar

Mathematical Implications

P and Q are statements, true or false

- P => Q for “P implies Q”/ “P only if Q”
- Converse: P <= Q for “P if Q”
- P <= => Q for “P if and only if Q”/ “P is equivalent to Q”

Vectors
Quantities characterized by magnitude (length) & direction

Fact: Vectors equal if components equal

Zero Vector: [0,0]

Remark: Vectors are floating in the plane, i.e. only determined by their length and direction (position
is not important)

Vector Algebra

Addition

u= [u1,u2]
v=[v1, v2]
Sum of u and v
u + v = [u1+v1, u2+v2]
