QUESTION: WHAT IS SPECULATIVE HISTORY AND WHY IS IT RELEVANT? (150-

250 words)

A history is a past event where we can gather many memories, facts, and circumstances that we
use as our enlightenment as we build our future. Speculative history is an opinion of our
historians. What they do is that they create or they add some events in a detailed history from the
past to make the actual content of history exciting or to make it as a whole. In a nutshell, we
cannot say that our history is entirely exact and real. Humankind, especially historians, is very
conscious about the exact details or what happens in particular events in our history. That is why
our historians are eager to create speculative history to make our history more relevant and
exciting to learn without giving evidence. In this sense, we can say that our history is not more
history but a term called speculative history. They add, and they develop history to manifest our
understanding of history. Our historian's intentions are evident that they wanted us to think
meaningful about our history. We are not only studying history for the purpose of education but
also to enlighten ourselves that our history provides a meaningful reason or lesson for our
progression. I know that we have questions about the happenings in our history; that is why
historians' primary purpose is to make speculative history to answer our questions and discover a
lot of theory to complete our history.
In answering why speculative history is relevant, historians' interest is to answer the question
"what's the point of life" in general, because the progress of human life depends on history and
the learnings that we acquire, and especially our principles. As a human, we have different
reasoning; other's understanding seems correct. Still, others may be wrong. That is why
speculative history allowing us to examine our initial assumptions regarding the value or futility
of such 'ultimate' questions. And the other answer is to give us a reason to learn a speculative
history because it is worthwhile or understandable. Speculative history is relevant for us because
they wanted us to preserve our own identity and deflect blames. The instability of the present is
unpleasant and perceived as resulting from the failure.
For me, our history is a broad thing that no one can provide an accurate description of. Even our
historians create speculative history to provide a meaningful history that can answer our history
questions. I think history is comprehensive, where even Frenchman Voltaire could not give
detailed descriptions about what happened in our history.
