Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the English Grade 3 module. This module was


collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both
from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or
facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12
Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic
constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time.
Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st
century skills while taking into consideration their needs and
circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in
the body of the module:

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use

What is It

Long vowel is the term used to refer to vowel sounds whose


pronunciation is the same as its letter name. The five vowels of the
English spelling system ('a', 'e,' 'i,' 'o,' and 'u') each have a
corresponding long vowel sound /eɪ/, /i/, /ɑɪ/, /oʊ/, /yu/. Example:
Cake and bike
Consonant blends are two consonant sounds put together, you
can hear both sounds. Example: Dress and blind
Ch and sh are examples of consonant digraphs. Ch has the sound
of /ch/ and sh has the sound of /sh/. Consonant digraphs are two
letters put together to make one new sound. Example: squash
and chair

Charina and Krish

Charina went to the market to buy fresh vegetables,


cheese, fish and shrimps for her menu. She wanted to prepare a
special dish for her best friend Krish.

Krish on the other hand, cooked glazed chicken and fruit


shake to be brought to the beach with Charina. She thought that

Charina will be surprised with her presents. She started imagining
