INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
1. FIGURE 1 shows a hot liquid flowing through a tube side of a heat exchanger
with constant diameter D. The hot liquid exchanges heat with cold water flowing
in a counter-current direction with respect to the tube at constant temperature
Tw. There are no radial gradients in all properties but axial gradients may exist.
The overall heat transfer coefficient between the hot and cold sides is Uw.
Develop mathematical model(s) to describe the dynamic variations in velocity,
density and temperature by making suitable assumptions.
