Career Management & Planning


Question No 1: Which theory, from each family of theories, do you think is most relevant with your
career development and Why? Justify your answer with examples?

Each theorist views career choices and development from much different perspective and focuses on
specific selected aspects.

Following are the career development theories.

1.       Trait and factor theories


2.       Development theories
3.       Learning theories
4.       Career development theories.

According to above theories, I believe that learning theories is most relevant to my career development.

Learning theories highlight the 3 components of learning.

1. Behaviorism: is based on the idea that knowledge is independent and on the exterior of the
learner.
2. Cognitivism: focuses on the idea that students process information they receive rather than just
responding to a stimulus, as with behaviorism.
3. Constructionism: is based on the premise that we construct learning new ideas based on our
own prior knowledge and experiences.

After studying the career management and planning course, I identified the important aspect learning
which led to exploring different aspects of life.

Below are few more theories which relevant for my career development.

• Introvert people: like I am introvert personality I believe it’s very important understands for our
career as much as you can about your introvert personality. I also think you need to have awareness of
where it might not be serving you so you can pursue meaningful improvements

• Holland’s theory: They are happy in their lives to match their personality in the career they are
in. like if I can teach; I can read well; I can make more effective for this career. But if I don’t know the
right way how to teach student so the children will be harmed and so will I.

• Counseling: Your career counselor will: help you more enhance your personality who you are
and what you want in your life ……career counselor helps you more identification what is better for your
career I identify the factors influencing your career development, more and more effective.

• John Holland studied people and careers: He found that people who had a career that matched
their personality were happier.
Question No 2: compare and Contrast MBTI and ZTPI? Which instrument do you think is more effective
for career development and why?

Answer:

MBTI: The purpose of MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type indicator) is to test, examine and further explore the
individual’s (his/her) personalities including their strengths, weakness, likes or dislikes. The goals of
MBTI are to analyze the current state of an individual (understanding about themselves).

Whereas,

ZTPI: is type of documented survey form which measure / experiment individual cognitive dimensions
and experiences in past, present and future (time-orientation). The purpose of conducting the test is to
investigate individual reactions / responses in risk taking and quality of life.

I believe both instruments have their own importance and both can be applied in effective career
development because MBTI identifies the strengths and weaknesses which is very necessary for an
individual to know about his/her expertise, skills, abilities or areas where he/she need to improve
further that drive the career path accordingly. While, ZTPI investigate how individual’s project
themselves in the time orientation (Past, present and future) and attributes / behavior (positive,
negative, fatalistic or hedonistic).
Question no 3: Which Action Verbs do you like the most and Why? Select 10 Action Verbs from at least
five skills and use them in Resume Writing?

Answer:

The above are the verbs and skills that I like because of my personality types (analyst and sentinels).

I will match the above verbs and skills with my qualifications and experience so that the employer has
better understanding about my current abilities which indeed match with the job requirements. I will try
to highlight in a way through which the evaluator will clear picture about my experience / skills / abilities
/ passion towards the job.

Question no 4: Which skills do you need to use “Influences” to positively shape your Self Efficacy? How is
your self-Efficacy related to your Self Esteem and mindset? Elaborate with examples?

Answer:

Self-efficacy is belief of a person about his/her abilities, skills, knowledge and capabilities through
experience to perform task in a way to achieved desirable outcome from it.

Following are skills required to use ‘influences’ to shape my self-efficacy positively.

 Emotional intelligence
 Problem Solving
 Leadership
 Team Work and communication
 Hard work.

Self-esteem is the confidence about his/her own abilities, worth and self-respect, and self-efficacy is
related to sense of self-worth or value.

Example:

I had done BS in finance, while working in organization I identified myself (self -efficacy) as an HR person.
For that purpose, I enrolled in SMIU for MS in HR and willing to complete my studies in which I found my
self good.
Question no 5: Mention at least five Areas of your Career Development which are significantly improved
after studying this subject? How those areas are improved? Justify with examples?

Below are the 5 Areas of my Career Development which I believed that improve after studying this
Course.

1. Goal Setting (the development of an action plan designed to motivate and guide a person or
group towards a goal)
2. Integrity (Integrity, or having strong ethical and moral principles)
3. Accepting constructive feedback (Receiving feedback, whether it’s positive or negative, is a good
thing)
4. Adaptability (with relevant information and knowledge)
5. Communication (Good communication skills).

While studying the course,

I realize the importance of goal setting which provide direction towards achieving my career goals. My
ultimate goal is to be at managerial position in multinational company. I planned this and trying to get
relevant skills and knowledge to be there.

Through integrity (honest, ethical and moral principle) will work in an organization that lead me to
achieved my goals.

Accepting feedback is necessary in order to understand own self with others paradigm. Will positively
utilize the constructive feed back from my teachers, subordinates and colleagues to further excel my
skills that directed towards my goals.

Adaptivity and communication, I develop the mentality / mindset of continuous improvement which is
providing me new knowledge and information and I’m trying to sharing with the mates and friends as
well.
