Hexagon Flange Bolts 1. Scope, ‘This Japanese Industrial ‘Standard specifies stee] hexagon flange bolts for general purpose, hereinafter referred to as the “bolts”. Remark: In this standard, units and numerical values given in { } are in accordance with the International System of Units (SI). 2, Classification ‘The bolts shall be classified into two classes given in Table 1 according to the shape of flange. Flange with flat upper face 3. Grades ‘The bolts shall be classified into six grades of 4.8, 6.8, 8.8, 10.9, 47 and 77, according to the strength class of mechanical properties specified in 4. 4. Mechantcal ties ‘The mechanical properties of the bolts shall comply with the requirements specified in Table 2. These specifications, however, do not apply to the bolts requiring the weldability, corrosion resistance, heat resistance for 300°C or over and cold resistance for -50°C or under. ‘The strength class of mechanical properties given in Column I shall be preferred. It shall not be at the connecting portion of the head with the body but at either the threaded portion or the body that the breaking takes place in the bolt. ‘The compliance of the bolt with the hardness requirement is justified when it complies with either specified mmber of two categories, Brinell hardness and Rockwell hardness. The hardnesees for the strength classes 8.8 and 10.9 may be as given in Table 3, subject to the agreement between the parties concerned. Reference: The pitches of the screw threads specified in Table 5-2 are in accordance with ISO 262-1973, ISO general purpose metric screw threads-Selected sizes for screws, bolts and nuts. Appearance ‘As for the appearance ‘of bolts, the surface roughness shall conform to the pecification of Attached Tables 1 and 2, and the surface shall be free from tenching cracks and harmfl defects, which might affect the use of bolts, such ‘5 flaws, flasbes and burrs. Unless the surface defects are particularly specified, it is recommended hat the permissible limits thereof specified in Reference attached to JIS B 0101 hould apply, as a standard. ‘Material ‘The material to be used for the bolts shall be such carbon steel or alloy teel thet the products may satisfy the mechanical properties given in Table 2. “set a a ae 9. Surface Treatment Whether the surface treatment such as plating is to be made for the bolts or not is subject to the purchaser's specification. ‘The bolts having been processed with the electrolysis plating shall be subjected to the brittleness-elimination treatment, as occasion demands. 10. Inspection ‘The inspection for the bolts shall be carried out as described below. However, the sampling inspection plan for the lot inspection shall be predetermined by the agreement between the parties concerned in acceptance. (2) Inspection for Mechanical Properties The inspection for the mechanical properties of the bolts shall be carried out in accordance with Table 6, and the results shall comply with the requirements of 4. The mechaiiical properties for the strength class Column I shall be inspected on inspection program B specified in 5.1.1 of ois B 1051. 3 ‘The bolt which has been subjected to the wedge tensil strength inspection may be exempted from the tensile strength inspection. © ‘The bolt which has been subjected to the tensile strength inspection or wedge tensile strength inspection may be exempted from the hardness inspection, but it is determined for the acceptance by the hardness inspection, if it is impossible to carry out the tension test on its dimensional reason and 50 forth, 2. ‘The bolts of Column I of strength class may be inspected on the Inspection program A in place of inspection program B specified in 5.1.1 of JIS B 1051. In this case, the tensile strength, yield point (or proof stress), elongation after breakage, head robustned®, impact strength (19) and ‘decarburized depth (10) shall comply with the requirements of Table 2, when tested in accordance with the methods of 4.2.1 @), 4.2.6, 4.2.7 and 4.2.8 of JIS B 1051. ‘The mechanical properties for the strength class Column Ti are based on the inspection program specified in 5.1.2 of JIS B 1051. ‘and the acceptance shall be determined by the hardness inspection, if it is impossible to carry out the tension test on its dimenstonal reason and so forth. ‘When the yield point (or proof stress) and elongation after breakage are required to test for the bolts of the strength class Column TL, these shall be tested in accordance with the method of 4.2.1 @) of JIS B 1051. ‘The hardness shall be either on Brinell hardness or on Rockwell hardness, and the other hardness, when used, shall be subject to the agreement between the parties concerned in acceptance. ‘The inspection for the mechanical properties on delivery of bolts may partially exclude the tests so far as the actions such as Confirmation of test results and so forth are taken, subject to the agreement between the parties concerned. ‘The impact strength stall be inspected for the bolts of 8.8 or more in the strength class and, at the same time, of nominal diameter 16 mm, and the decarburized depth shall-be inspected only for the bolts of 8.8 or more in the strength class. Inspection on Shape and Dimensions ‘The inspection on the shape and izessions shall be earried out by the direct measurement or by means of limit gauge and the like, and the results shall comply with the requirements of 5. Inspection on Screw Threads The inspection on the screw threads shall be carried out with the limit gauge for screw threads specified in JIS B 0251 or JIS B 0252 or by means of the substitutional thread inspecting instrument, and the results shall comply with the requirements of 6. For the plated screw threads, the go-thread-ring-gauges for 4 h or Grade 1 shall be used. Appearance Inspection The eppearance shall be visually inspected, and the results shall comply with the requirements of 7. However, the surface roughnesses shall be inspected with the roughness comparison speciinens (refer to JIS B 0659) or the instrument for measurement of surface roughness by stylus method (refer to JIS B 0651). 31. Marking 12.1 Marking on Product The strength class and identification mark of manufacturer to be marked on the product shell be in accordance with Appendix to JIS B 1051. 12.2.
