Scope, ‘This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies weld nuts, hereinafter referred to as the "nuts", of stecl for general purpose. ‘Those nuts are projection welded or spot welded when used. Remark: In this standard the units and numerical values in{ } are based on the International System of Units (SI). 2, Classification Nuts are classified as given in Table 1 in accordance with the combination of classification by shape and types. ‘The types identify the welding method, existence or not of pilot and projeo- tion for welding. Mechanical Property ‘The mechanical property of nuts shall be as given in Table 2. Unless otherwise specified, it is preferable that the criteria for permissible. surface discontinuity follow the Reference attached to JIS B 0101. 7. Material, ‘The material of nuts shall be carbon steel having a carbon content of 0.2 % or less by which the product satisfies the mechanical property given in Table 2, and shall ensure good weldability to rolled steel sheets. It is preferable to check the peel strength to pressing given in Reference 1 or peel strength to torque given in Reference 2 when it is desired to verlfy the weldability. 8. Surface Treatment As a rule, surface treatment is not carried out on nuts, when such surface e , _ treatment as plating is especially needed the details shall be specified. 9, Inspection ‘The inspection of nuts shall be as follows. (2) Method for Peel Test by Torque The nut is welded to the steel sheet given in Reference Table 1.2, the steel sheet is fixed firmly as shown in Reference Fig. 2.1, the torque ta applied along a plane perpen- dioular to the center line of screw thread as possible and the torque when the welded part peels off shall be measured. 5 When the test steel sheet 1s teared off at the welded part with the appropriate torque given in Reference Table 2.1 or less, retest shall be carried out by using more thicker sheet within the nominal thickness given in Reference Table 1.2 or by increasing the tempering division of steel sheet.
