LOAD CALCULATION AND APPLICATION

DEAD LOAD:

Self-weight is automatically calculated by STAAD. Pro.

Total Glass thickness = 14 mm

Glass weight at each location for Spandrel = (14/1000 x 25 x 0.9 x 1.575)/2 = 0.25 kN

Glass weight at each location for Vision = (14/1000 x 25 x 2.7 x 1.575)/2 = 0.75 kN

Document No. ATH-TWS-ALM-ST-CS-0033 Page 55

POSITIVE WIND LOAD (WLP)

Considered Positive wind load of Zone-2 = 3 kPa

Load from top panel on head transom = 3 x 3.6/2 = 5.4 kN/m (3.6m is panel height)

Document No. ATH-TWS-ALM-ST-CS-0033 Page 56

NEGATIVE WIND LOAD (WLN)

Considered Negative wind load of Zone-2 = 3 kPa

Load from top panel on head transom = 3 x 3.6/2 = 5.4 kN/m (3.6m is panel height)

CHECK FOR DEFLECTION

DEAD LOAD DEFLECTIONS

Maximum dead load deflection = 1.10 mm

Allowable dead load deflection = Span / 360 (Project Specification Cl 4.5.2)

= 1575 / 360

= 4.375 mm

Document No. ATH-TWS-ALM-ST-CS-0033 Page 58

DEAD+WIND LOAD DEFLECTIONS

Maximum deflection = 34.45 mm

Allowable deflection = Span / 200 (Project Specification Cl 4.5.2)

= 3600 / 200

= 18 mm

The actual deflections will be much lesser than the above shown values because of the following reasons:

As can be seen in the deflection diagram above, most of the deflection is in the Lateral Direction
(X-Axis). Since the glass is bonded to the Mullions is very rigid in this plane, it will act as a rigid
diaphragm and prevent any lateral deflection within the panel.
The above model is considering only half Mullions. But after installation of the Panel, the male
and female mullions will act as one unit and reduce the deflections. This combined deflection is
already shown in the Zone-2 report (ATH-TWS-ALM-ST-CS-0021) and are within the specified
limits.

Hence we can conclude that the actual deflections will be much less than the deflections in the
model.

FACTORED MEMBER FORCES ON MULLIONS

Note: The bending about minor axis (Y axis) can be safely ignored since the glass is rigid in this plane and
will prevent the bending of the mullion about this axis
