- What is the function of?

1- Steam Drum: A steam drum is a standard feature of a water-tube boiler. It is a reservoir of water/steam at the top end
of the water tubes. The drum stores the steam generated in the water tubes and acts as a phase-separator for
the steam/water mixture.

2- Low NOx burner: A Low NOx burner is a type of burner that is typically used in utility boilers to produce steam and
electricity.

3- Steam attemburators: It prevents the temperature from going up. In attemperator water is sprayed to reduce the steam
temperature.

4- Deaerator: The purpose of a deaerator is to reduce dissolved gases, particularly oxygen, to a low level and improve
plant thermal efficiency by raising the water temperature. In addition, they provide feed water storage and proper
suction conditions for boiler feed water pumps.

5- Burner: The heat source in the boiler where the air or fuel mixes and burns to supply the required heat for the super-
heated steam.

6- Open Feed water heater: It’s a mixing chamber that heats the water before entering the boiler.

7- Economizer: It is a boiler equipment that reduces the heat needed to produce Super-Heated steam by a Pre-Heating
process for the water by the exhaust gases.
8- Thermal Ejector in a MSF system: It is a device equivalent to conversion diversion cycle; it generates vacuum to
reduce the energy required for the process.

9- Cooling Tower: it is used to remove the heat from the cooling water that exists from the condenser by using air.

10- Primary air: Primary air mixes with fuel in the combustion chamber.

11- Desalination Process: Desalination is a process that takes away mineral components from saline water. More
generally, desalination refers to the removal of salts and minerals from a target substance.

12- Membrane: Reverse Osmosis (RO): is desalination by using membrane separation method which is taking the water
need to be desalinated into a pump that raise its pressure then let it pass a membrane to remove the dissolved salts.

13- Pretreatment in RO: RO feed streams must be compatible with the membrane and other materials of construction used
in the devices. If the feed stream contains incompatible compounds, these must be removed in pretreatment, or
another compatible device and/or membrane must be considered.

14- Starting device in a power plant: it’s a device to start up the turbine in a powerplant.

15- A blower in a boiler: the blower (forced draft fan) is located at the base of the boiler near the grate. Air is forced to the
furnace by forced fan and the flue gases are forced to chimney through economizer and air preheater.
