Rope skipping
What is Rope Skipping?
There are multiple games and combinations about skipping rope. As the
movement is automated, you can increase the difficulty.
Concepts to know:
Individual jump rope: it is a short jump rope in which only one person jumps, or in
some cases two.
Long rope: it is a longer rope in which two give and at least one other jumps.
Double rope: these are two ropes that rotate inwards at the same time and hit the
ground alternately.

Route of the rope: the rope draws a circle that we divide into four phases:
*To enter at the right time, you must do it at point one (when the rope passes in front of the face of the person
who is going to jump), both with long rope and double rope.

Good side: when the rope goes towards you. You have to go out on the opposite side to the one
entered.
Bad side: when it sags in the opposite direction from where you are. You have to go out on the same
side as you have entered. In double rope, both sides are bad because it gives inward.
Jumps: to jump the rope it is not necessary to make big jumps, if not quite the opposite. The jumps
must be small, without raising the knees excessively and without a little jump in the middle while
waiting for the rope to arrive again.
Is it a sport?
Yes. Jump rope is not only a schoolyard game. It is also practiced at a competitive level, and has its own
federations. (ERSO: European Rope Skipping Organisation; IRSF: International RS Federation).
Types of jumping
In our classes we jump only individually and in a long rope, but there are different ways:
Individually: One person swings and jumps with their own rope
In pairs: One person swings the rope and a partner enters the
rope jumping with him or her.
In a long Rope: Two people swing a long rope and the rest of
the class enters the rope individually or in groups.
Rope skipping helps strengthen your legs and also your arms and shoulders. This combination of an aerobic
workout and coordination has made rope jumping a popular form of exercise for athletes, especially boxers,
wrestlers and basketball players.
