FITNESS AND
ASSESSMENT
PHYSICAL FITNESS

 Physical fitness is a state of health

 and well-being and, more
specifically, the ability to perform
aspects of sports, occupations and
daily activities. Physical fitness is
generally achieved through proper
nutrition,[1] moderate-vigorous
physical exercise,[2] and sufficient
10 COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL
FITNESS
 CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE
 STAMINA
 STRENGHT
 FLEXIBILTY
 POWER
 SPEED
 COORDINATION
 AGILITY
 BALANCE
 ACCURACY
CARDIOVASCULAR
ENDURANCE
 Cardiovascular endurance is the
ability of the heart, lungs and blood
vessels to deliver oxygen to your
body tissues. The more efficiently
your body delivers oxygen to its
tissues, the lower your breathing
rate is.
ACTIVITES THAT IMPROVES THE
CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE
STAMINA

 Physical stamina is one of several

components used to evaluate health
and fitness. It includes
cardiovascular and muscular
endurance, which is the ability of
your heart, lungs and muscles to
work for long periods without
pooping out.
ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVES
THE STAMINA
STRENGHT
Sports Definition: the ability to
carry out work against a
resistance. Strength is the
maximal force you can apply
against a load. Training to
improve muscle strength includes
lifting weights or otherwise
increasing the resistance against
which you work.
ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVES
THE STRENGHT
FLEXIBILITY
Flexibility is defined as the range
of motion of your joints or the
ability of your joints to move
freely. It also refers to the
mobility of your muscles, which
allows for more movement around
the joints.
ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVES
THE FLIXIBILITY
POWER
 SportsDefinition:
the ability to exert a
maximal force in as short a
time as possible, as in
accelerating, jumping and
throwing implements. While
strength is the maximal force
you can apply against a
load, power is proportional
to the speed at which you can
apply this maximal force.
ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVES
THE POWER
ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVES
THE SPEED
COORDINATION
the ability to move two or
more body parts under
control, smoothly and
efficiently. There are two
types of balance: static and
dynamic.
ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVES
THE COORDINATION
SPEED
 Speed is the ability to
move quickly across the
ground or move limbs
rapidly to grab or throw.
AGILITY
 Agility isthe ability to move
and change direction and
position of the body quickly
and effectively while under
control. It requires quick
reflexes, coordination,
balance, speed, and correct
response to the changing
situation.
ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVES
THE AGILITY
BALANCE
the ability to stay upright or
stay in control of body
movement, and coordination
is the ability to move two or
more body parts under
control, smoothly and
efficiently. There are two
types of balance: static and
dynamic.
ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVES
THE BALANCE
ACCURACY
refers to the ability to control
movement in a given direction at
a given intensity. Reaction Time
– Also closely related to agility, is
defined as the time elapsed
between stimulation and the
beginning of the reaction to it.
ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVES
THE ACCURACY
Physical fitness test
1. Standing long jump- measures the
strenght of the upper leg muscle.
2. Ruler drop test- measures the
reaction time of an individual.
3. Sit and reach- measure the
flexibility of the hamstring
muscles.
 4. Shoulder Stretch measure the
flexibility of the shoulder joints.
 5.PartialCurl ups – measure the
strength and endurance of the
abdominal muscles.
 6.Trunk lift- strenght and flexibility
of the lower back extensor muscle.
Interpretation of scores

 High Performance – 27 up 95
 Good fitness – 21- 26 90
 Marginal fitness – 16 – 25 85
 Low fitness 15 or less 80
 7.Push up – strenght and endurance
of the arms and upper body .
muscles.
 8. Side Shuttle – measure one`s
agility
 9.Stork balance – measure one`s
balance
 10. Hexagon step test – cardio
vascular endurance.
