“The Land We belong”

Culture is the words that we often come across. We are all part of a cultures and cultures is an integral
determinant of who we are as individuals. Culture is the unique characteristics of a person. Culture is
clothes we wear, the language we speak and the food we eat. Culture is our costume, our beliefs and
our values.
The Maranao word for lake is Lanao, thus Maranaw, M’ranao, or Meranao, commonly means
“dwellers or people of the lake”. The Mranao have a very rich cultural heritage. Moreover, they are
known for the richness of their culture that until now is still evident and have continued to live up in
the hearts of every Mranao. Maranao culture has been known internationally due to its authenticity and
pulchritude. To this day, Maranaos uphold their culture despite the growing technology and
modernization of the world.Actually, we are famously known for their ancient artifacts, wood carvings,
cultural dances, artworks, golden cultural attire and their distinctive cuisine.
