Station B.S. I.S F.S Rise Fall RL. Remarks

1 2.150 450.00 BM1
2 1.640 1.650 0.500 450.500
3 2.345 0.705 449.795
4 1.425 1.965 0.380 450.175
5 2.050 1.825 0.400 449.775
6 0.325 1.725 451.500 BM2
7 1.690 0.205 1.200 451.620
8 2.865 2.100 0.410 451.210
9 1.825 1.040 452.250 BM3

STEPS:-
FS of ST 2 = BS of ST 1- Rise
= 2.150 - 0.500
= 1.650

8
RL of ST.2 = RL of ST 1 + Rise
= 450.00 + 0.500
= 450.50
Fall at ST 3 = BS of ST 2- IS
= 1.640 - 2.345
= 0.705
RL of ST.3 = RL of ST 2 - Fall
= 450.50 – 0.705
= 449.795
Rise at ST 4 = IS of ST 3- FS
= 2.345 – 1.965
= 0.380
RL of ST.4 = RL of ST 3 + Rise
= 449.795 + 0.380
= 450.175
RL of ST.5 = RL of ST 4 - Fall
= 450.175 – 0.400
= 449.775
BS at ST.4 = FS at ST 5 –Fall
= 1.825 – 0.400
= 1.425
In Station 6 neither IS is given nor rise, but RL of ST 6 is given i.e. 451.500
Thus, we can calculate rise as follows.
Rise = RL of ST 6 – RL of ST 5
= 451.500 – 449.775
= 1.725.
Now, Calculating IS of ST 6.
IS of ST 6 = BS of ST 5- Rise
= 2.050 – 1.725
= 0.325
FS of ST 7 = IS of ST 6- Rise
=0.325 – 0.120
= 0.205
RL of ST.7 = RL of ST 6 + Rise
= 451.500 + 1.20
= 451.620
Fall at ST 8 = BS of ST 7- FS
= 1.690 – 2.100
= 0.41
RL of ST.8 = RL of ST 7 - Fall
= 451.620- 0.41
= 451.210
In Station 9 neither FS is given nor rise, but RL of ST 9 is given i.e. 452.250
Thus, we can calculate rise as follows.
Rise = RL of ST 9 – RL of ST 8
= 452.250 – 451.210
= 1.040
Now, Calculating FS of ST 9.
FS of ST 9 = BS of ST 8- Rise

9
= 2.865 – 1.040
= 1.825

Check
= ∑BS -∑FS = ∑Rise- ∑Fall = Last RL – First RL
= 11.82 – 9.57 = 3.765 – 1.515 = 452.250 - 450
= 2.25 = 2.25 = 2.25
Q.10 The following staff readings were taken on a uneven ground with a 4 m leveling 07

first reading was taken on a bench mark of 100 m. 1.20, 2.65, 3.50, 2.40, 1.95,
0.90, 1.80, 3.70, 2.50, 0.85, 1.70. (18/6/2013)
