Saving energy is an elephant in the room

When the question is about Saving Energy, it is necessary to respect its usage
and the usage has to be optimal to the point that you do not waste, you
conserve as far as possible and you also try recycling. So, energy conservation
is a sub part of the larger aspect of life. So, it is important to respect every
resource that gives you utility (no matter if it is a person or a thing). Talking
about using energy (principally electricity) we can say we have tried to ensure
that right at the construction level when we started planning the
school. The layout of the school classrooms incorporates enough natural light
and ventilation and resultantly we do not need to conserve too much of
electricity when it comes to powering our lights and fans. Though we have
provided fans and ample of tube lights, every classroom is designed in such a
way that a large window and a large ventilator on either side of the classroom
provide for the cross ventilation. Similarly, natural light comes into our
classrooms and other areas, as a result of which usage of artificial light is
reduced substantially. Our corridors also open out into the natural and
ambient light and ventilation. So, at the planning time itself we made sure that
every new device we use is best suited in terms of energy conservation. We
also make use of 3-star devices which are as good as prominent 5-
star devices.
So basically, anything that is eco-friendly and possible and affordable for us to
invest into, our approach has been to go in for it. But the management of our
school strongly believes that our greatest input is to influence the next
generation that is, ‘the students’. Our main objective is to
influence ‘their’ minds to truly believe that conservation is the way forward. We
could replace all our tube lights with LED, we could replace all our devices
with energy saving devices but that is just one building. If we could influence
thousands of children, we could have each one of ‘them’ as an ambassador of
conservation. We have various signages which say “Conserve electricity”.
These signages are at every place where there are electric connections. To us if
we can convert ‘them’ all into great human beings who will recycle, conserve,
respect all the animate and inanimate things, our job is done. Also, the biggest
substitute is in the mind. All of us need to think about how we can use less.
How is it possible to use less? For example- if I buy 10 pencils, 2 erasers and 2
sharpeners, can't I just reduce it to 6 pencils, 1 eraser and 1 sharpener?
So, for each one of us, if we start consuming less and use only what we need
and not waste anything then it is the best thing. To cut long story short- reduce
consumption. If you do that, everything falls into place.
