SURVEYING – II
(Civil Engineering)
Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 70
PART – A
(Compulsory Question)
*****
1 Answer the following: (10 X 02 = 20 Marks)
(a) What are the uses of trigonometrical leveling?
(b) Give specifications of first order triangulation.
(c) What is a subtense bar? What are its advantages?
(d) State the uses of tachometry.
(e) What is the ‘tower’?
(f) Define ‘site grid’.
(g) What is the radius of a 1° curve?
(h) What are the different methods of curve setting?
(i) What are the phases of electromagnetic waves?
(j) Define ‘Geographical information system’.

PART – B
(Answer all five units, 5 X 10 = 50 Marks)
UNIT – I
2 The altitudes of two proposed stations A and B 100 km apart are respectively 420 m and 700 m. The
intervening obstruction situated at ‘C’ 70 km from A has an elevation of 478 m. Ascertain if A and B
are intervisible and if necessary find by how much ‘B’ should be raised so that line of sight must be
now here be less than 3 m above the surface of the ground.
OR
3 What are the different methods by which the difference in elevation could be determined? Explain.
UNIT – II
4 Explain the basic system of tacheometry measurement with neat sketch.
OR
5 Determine the value of stadia constants from the following observations.
Inst. Station Staff station Distance (m) Stadia lower Readings upper
A 150 1.255 2.750
B 200 1.000 3.000
O C 250 0.750 3.255
UNIT – III
6 What is meant by triangulation? Describe classification of triangulation.
OR
7 How will you locate a bridge Pier using setting out method?

UNIT – IV
8 Name the methods of setting out of curves. Explain in detail.
OR
9 Two straight lines PQ and QR on the centre line of a proposed road on a rocky headland are to be
connected by a circular curve of 600ft radius. From the traverse notes, it is found that if the bearing
of PQ is assumed to be N O° O′ E, the bearing of QR will be N 48° 20′ E while if P be taken as the
origin of coordinates, the latitude and departure of R will be +725 ft and +365 ft respectively.
Determine the distance of the tangent points of the curve from the stations P and R.
UNIT – V
10 (a) Discuss in detail about electromagnetic distance measurement.
(b) Explain about the total station, its uses, and models.
OR
11 (a) Explain the various remote sensing observation platforms.
(b) Explain in detail GIS components.
