LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEETS

TOPIC: SELECT AND USE FARM TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Background information for learners:
Fishing like hunting was used by early man to secure food for survival. Nowadays,
people who live near the sea or areas with brackish water get into fish cultivation for profit or
home consumption.
For beginners who wanted to engage in aquaculture, it is proper to learn and familiarize
yourself with these farm/fishery tools.
Hand tools were designed for specific purposes. They are available in various types,
shapes, and sizes with different degrees of hardness and varying forms. Each hand tool is
designed for a particular job and should be used for the purpose only. Using a tool other than
its intended purpose can cause discomfort, pain, or injury.

LEARNING COMPETENCY WITH CODE:

1. Identify fishery tools and equipment according to use. (TLE_AFAFCAP9-12UTEIc-d-4)
2. Conduct pre-operation check-up in line with the manufacturer’s manual. (TLE_AFAFCAP9-

TOPIC: PERFORM ESTIMATION AND BASIC CALCULATION
Background Information for Learners
Developing an area without project cost estimates and program of development is the
most unacceptable error a prospective operator can make. Problems like wasting of
development money and difficulty in managing the area arise from this error. Project failure
results from poor planning will then result to personal bankruptcy.
Constructions of aquaculture facilities involve many procedures and activities, with
specific job requirements depending on the type of aquaculture facility that will be established.
Each then has its own materials, resources and labor requirements which is the basis of
estimating costs and time needed to its construction.

Activity 5: Answer the following computations and show your solution.
Basic Mathematical Operations Applied in Fish Culture

Please Practice Personal Hygiene at all times. 22

CLOSURE:
In real life, estimation is part of our everyday experience. For students, estimating is an
important skill. We want students to be able to determine the reasonableness of their answers.
Without estimation skills, students aren’t able to determine if their answer is within a
reasonable change.
Knowing the formulas, conversions and basic mathematical operations in fishery art /
aquaculture will give us better results in any work activities in the workplace. Always have a
guide whenever calculating problems like conversions and formulas. It is also necessary to
know how to measure objects, area, volumes, and weights.
