Lesson The Computer System

1  Familiarize themselves with the computer system; and


 Identify the three components of a computer system.

A computer system is made up of different parts with different


functions.

Components of a Computer System

Hardware
-refers to the physical electronic equipment.
 System hardware – includes the resources related to the functioning of
the system unit. Examples: motherboard, power supply, storage
controller, video card, and bus controller.
 Peripheral hardware – involves all the external equipment connected to
the system unit. Examples: mouse, trackball, joystick, scanner, printer,
speaker, hard disk, memory card, bar code reader, and web camera.

Software
-is a set of programs.
 Operating System – Windows, Mac OS, and Linux
 Programming Languages – JAVA, Microsoft.Net
 Application Programs – directs the computer to use its resources to the
particular requirement of the user. Examples: Microsoft Word, Google,
Zoom… etc.

Peopleware
-refers to the people who are using computer based on their needs.

 describe each device correctly.

How the Computer Works?

Input Devices
These devices enable the user to enter data, commands, and programs
to a computer.
1. Keyboard – is a device with buttons or keys used to
enter letters, numbers, and symbols into a computer.

2. Joystick – used in a computer games and some medical


applications. It is used to move an indicator on a monitor
screen.

3. Trackball - is a pointing device resembling a mouse but is


stationary and guided by fingers instead of rolled on the
desktop.

4. Barcode Scanner - used in department stores and supermarkets.


This device scan printed pattern of wide and narrow vertical bars
used to represent numerical codes.

5. Scanner - used to copy text and image in a form of softcopy.


It converts an image into digital image files.

6. Webcam – is an input device that captures video images.

interpreting program instructions and executing them.
