The elderly, a civic responsibility

Aging, previously considered a phenomenon, is now part of the reality of most societies. The
world is aging and it is estimated that by 2050 there will be an average of two billion people
aged 60 and over, most of them living in developing countries.

It should be emphasized that the elderly cannot fend for themselves, and it is when it comes to
receiving the necessary care and attention that problems arise. If the elderly person has an
illness, the risk of suffering mistreatment by his family or by the personnel suitable for his care,
which can be physical and mental, is increased. It should be remembered that one is young
now, but will be old someday, which makes one want to be well cared for and have the
necessary attention. The elderly, whether they are relatives or not, should be cared for in
order to improve their quality of life. There is a saying that goes: "The way you treat the
elderly, the way you will be treated by future generations".

At the beginning of old age, many people may think that older men will no longer contribute
anything due to their physical weaknesses, but it is important to know other factors in which
they support us as a society.

A main disadvantage of older men is the weakening of the physical state of the person. Many
times they will have to ask for help when they need to move or even eat if due to body aches.
But it is also true that if these older men trained in their past, they may not suffer these
difficulties and be able to continue doing their activities.

About jobs, many of us believe that older men cannot contribute much because of their
physique, but they will contribute with their knowledge. By sharing what they learned in their
life, they can teach others to improve and learn through experiences and anecdotes

Every elderly person is a living being and deserves to be treated as a living being and also
deserves a last chance. The current situation is problematic, and we must be aware that we
are all destined to grow old in the course of our lives.
