Abstract
On this paper, I will explain how I met competency for TPE 6.1. I will provide an introduction
on how I implemented the TPE running record during my students teaching clinical hours. I will
also provide an explanation on how I demonstrated competency for TPE 6.1. I will provide a
reflection on how I will conduct a TPE running record at the end of lesson.

Intro
To demonstrate competency for TPE 6.1, I provided TPE running record that I used
during my student teaching clinical hours. This TPE running record illustrate how I met
competency of the TPEs for 8 weeks, which is equivalent to 8 lessons that I taught during my
student teaching. I demonstrate competency for TPE 6.1 as I would reflect on my own teaching
practice and level of understanding of the subject matter. I also need to mention that after each
reflection, I would also identify strategies that would help me demonstrate competency for each
Explanation
In my opinion, TPE 6.1 is a competency that the majority of teachers perform without
even know that they are self-reflecting in their teaching practice. Most educators use this tool to
reflect in the moment to change strategies and implement new approaches if the students are not
demonstrating understanding. Even if teachers don’t make any changes of the approach on that
moment, they are still reflecting that the strategy was not effective. The teachers will have that
change in periods to perform their adjustments based on the ineffectiveness of the strategies. In
my opinion, the TPE running record should be conducted after the end of every lesson. This will
help educators reflect and determine if they met the targeted TPEs. On the other hand, Goldman
and Grimbek state that the “reflection in action, conceptualized as the intuitive and reactive type
of reflection that may occur during a teaching situation, while a teacher notices how their
teaching of the lesson changed from the initial plan. Teachers are exhorted to constantly reassess
the learning that is taking place and modify the experience, as necessary, to ensure that the
learning is maximized”(Goldman and Grimbek, 2015). The authors Goldman and Grimbek
suggest that teachers should reassess the strategy if is not working properly for the students and

to modify the experience of the strategy to meet the targeted goal. When educators focus in
reflecting “in the personal context, when the teachers reflected on their own, their appreciation
for the activities provided a dramatic contrast to their daily experiences in other context” (Jay,pg.
137, 2003). Teachers should reflect on the personal context, that is to reflect on one’s
competency of the TPEs and understanding of the content. If educators reflect on their personal
context of demonstrating TPEs competency, then they will be able to identify their weaknesses
and at the same time address them to implement strategy to meet that specific TPE competency.
Reflection
In my opinion, the TPE running record should be conducted at the end of each lesson.
After writing the supporting documentation of the TPE 6.1, I have concluded that I will perform
a TPE running record at the end of each lesson. I will first design the lesson and make a list of
the TPEs that I will perform, at the end of the lesson I will self-assess if I demonstrated
competency for the targeted TPE. During the lessons I will also conduct self-assessment on the
learning activities to determine if they need in the moment modification to assist the students in
the learning of the students. Reflecting on my own teaching practices at the end of each lesson
will help me to implement new strategies for the following classes or even determine to reteach
