18-Day Campaign to End
Violence Against Women (VAW)

Republic Act 10398 (2013) a law that declared November 25 of Every Year as National Consciousness Day for
the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children and Proclamation 1172 s. 2006 declaring November 25 to
December 12 as the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) this was done to eliminate the
increasing number of violence against women not only in our country but in the whole world. This year theme “VAW-
free community starts with Me”, shifts the campaign to positive advocacy messaging, by giving emphasis on
everyone’s commitment and contributions in ending VAW, and our collaborative pursuit of our common vision of a
VAW-free community.

To support this event, Sto.Rosario Elementary School joined the campaign to end violence against women.
The banner of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women was hanged in the school gate so that pupils and
parents will be aware of the said campaign. On December 12, 2018 after the flag ceremony, pupils were informed
about the importance of the campaign and what is it. It was followed by a film viewing where pupils watched the
different forms of violence women experienced in school, at home and in public places. This was done so that pupils
will be aware how they can help stop violence against women. An essay writing and slogan making contest was also
done. Pupils from grades 4 to 6 was asked to write what they know about violence against women and how they can
help end this.

On the afternoon, at exactly 1:00 pm, a seminar on information dissemination about the campaign was done
not only to the teachers but also female parents and guardians. They were invited so that they will be aware of their
rights as women and what will they do in case violence happens to them. Parents who also attended the seminar were
given flyers that contain information about women’s violence and contact information on who and where they can seek
help in case they need help.

Violence against women can happen to anyone. We must help one another to end this. Let’s make our country
a VAW free.
