Warranty BROCK® Grain Spreader

Warranty
Brock Grain Systems (“Brock”) warrants each new Brock Grain Spreader manufactured by it to be free from
defects in material or workmanship for two (2) years from and after the date of initial installation by or for the
original purchaser. If such a defect is found by the Manufacturer to exist within the two year period, the
Manufacturer will, at its option, (a) repair or replace such product free of charge, F.O.B. the factory of manufacture,
or (b) refund to the original purchaser the original purchase price, in lieu of such repair of replacement. Labor costs
associated with the replacement or repair of the Spreader are not covered by the Manufacturer.
Conditions and Limitations
(a) The product must be installed and operated in accordance with instructions published by the Manufacturer or
Warranty will be void.
(b) This product must be purchased from and installed by an authorized Brock Dealer or the Warranty will be void.
(c) Malfunctions or failure resulting from misuse, abuse, negligence, alteration, accident, or lack of proper
maintenance shall not be considered defects under this Warranty.
The Manufacturer shall not be liable for any consequential or special damage which any purchaser may suffer or
claim to suffer as a result of any defect in the product. “Consequential” or “special damages” as used herein
include, but are not limited to, lost or damaged products or goods, costs of transportation, lost sales, lost order,
lost income, increased overhead, labor and incidental costs and operational inefficiencies.
THIS WARRANTY CONSTITUTES THE MANUFACTURER’S ENTIRE AND SOLE WARRANTY AND
THE MANUFACTURER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL OTHER WARRANTIES,
INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, EXPRESS AND IMPLIED WARRANTIES AS TO
MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR PARTICULAR PURPOSES SOLD AND DESCRIPTION OR
QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT FURNISHED HEREUNDER.
Brock Dealers are not authorized to modify or extend the terms and conditions of this Warranty in any manner or
to offer or grant any other warranties for BROCK® products in addition to those terms expressly stated above.
An officer of CTB, Inc., must authorize any exceptions to this Warranty in writing. The Manufacturer reserves
the right to change models and specifications at any time without notice or obligation to improve previous models.

About This Manual


CAUTION! For operation of your Grain Spreader, read and understand this Manual.
Failure to follow proper operational procedures may cause damage to
equipment or personal injury.
Contact your BROCK Dealer to replace this Manual should it become lost or damaged.
The intent of this Manual is to help you install your BROCK® Grain Spreader.
Follow this Manual step-by-step in the order of assembly. Use it for easy reference
if you have questions in a particular area.
Follow recommended precautions and safe operating practices of national and/or
local codes at each installation site.
Warranty information is included on the inside front cover of this Manual.
Major changes from the last printing are listed on the back cover.
IMPORTANT! Read ALL instructions and study all Figures carefully BEFORE starting
construction.
IMPORTANT! Pay particular attention to all SAFETY information on pages 6-9 and 19.
This Planning Symbol is used in areas where planning needs to take place before
construction continues. When you see the Planning symbol at left, decisions must be

Tools and Equipment Needed


WARNING! Inventory all tools and pieces of hardware near the Grain Spreader
during installation or servicing. Tools left inside the unit could cause
damage or injury.
• Flat-blade screwdriver
• Open end wrenches 1/2"
• Socket wrenches with 1/2'' socket
• Electrical wire, adequate length and gauge for load
• Wire cutters and wire strippers
• Drill bits
• Safety glasses
• Gloves
CAUTION! Because of the DANGER of falling or flying debris, protective eyewear/
safety glasses MUST be worn during assembly, installation, maintenance
or servicing of this Grain Spreader. Failure to do so may result in minor or
moderate injury.

this Manual, be alert to the potential for personal injury. This symbol is used
throughout this Manual to identify stages where the bin Contractor and/or Operator
need to take special note and precautions regarding the DANGER described. Please

BROCK® Grain Spreaders are built with your SAFETY in mind.
However, accidents can happen with improper installation or use of any system using
moving parts and electricity. BROCK strives to take every reasonable precaution to
design equipment that is safe without compromising or restricting necessary
movement of components.
Follow recommended precautions and safe operating practices of national and/or
local codes at each installation site.
Carefully read and follow these SAFETY procedures whenever you are around or
operating the Grain Spreader. Carefully read all SAFETY messages in this Manual and
on your equipment SAFETY Decals. Follow recommended precautions and safe
operating practices. Also read and follow the SAFETY procedures in your Manuals to
supplemental equipment and accessories, and on your equipment SAFETY Decals.
Keep this Manual in a safe, dry place where the Grain Spreader Operator can easily
obtain it. Contact your BROCK Dealer to replace a Manual should it become lost
or damaged.
CAUTION! For operation and use of your Grain Spreader, read and understand this
Manual. Failure to read this Manual by qualified personnel BEFORE
assembly, installation or usage, constitutes a misuse of the equipment
and could void the Warranty.
WARNING! Grain Spreader installations shall meet the National Fire Protection
Association Standard 61B, as amended, for the prevention of fires and
explosions in grain elevators and facilities handling bulk raw
agricultural commodities. Failure to follow this standard could result in
death or serious injury.

SAFETY

Electrical DANGER Decal


IMPORTANT! Read the DANGER Decal on your Grain Spreader. Check the Spreader
for proper Decal placement BEFORE the equipment is operated. Never
use equipment if the DANGER Decal is missing, improperly placed,
damaged or altered. In this case call the Manufacturer for immediate
replacement. Keep Decals clean and grease-free.
SAFETY information has been provided by the
Manufacturer to help insure the safe and proper use of
this product. This SAFETY information has been
placed on the Grain Spreader to provide proper access
to the user.
The following DANGER Decal is properly located on
the Grain Spreader Control Box Lid (as shipped from
the factory) as shown in Figure 2. Make sure the Decal
can be easily seen at all times.

Electrical SAFETY
DANGER! Electricity can KILL! Use extreme CAUTION around electrical
components. Your Installer should be sure wiring is an adequate gauge
to carry the load of your Spreader’s Motor. Failure to follow these
instructions will result in death or serious injury.
In selecting electrical control equipment to be used with any installation, the
purchaser must use equipment conforming to the National Electrical Code, the
National Electrical Safety Code and all other applicable local or national codes.
IMPORTANT! All electrical wiring should be done by a qualified electrician and all
components must meet the National Fire Protection Association
Standard NFPA No. 70, American National Standard Inst. ANSI-C1, and
all local requirements.
BROCK assumes no responsibility for the electrical wiring used with this Grain
Spreader. BROCK will not be liable for failure of the Grain Spreader because of
improper electrical capacity, installation or use.
IMPORTANT! All Safety devices, including wiring of electrical devices, shall be
arranged to operate such that a power failure or failure of the device
itself will not result in a hazardous condition.
To prevent a hazardous condition, the machine MUST be prevented
from restarting on its own when power returns after a power failure.
DANGER! Do not allow the Grain Spreader to run while any adjustments or
maintenance are being performed. Failure to shut it off will result in
personal injury or death. Disconnect electrical power BEFORE
inspecting or servicing equipment unless maintenance instructions
specifically state otherwise. Failure to do so will result in death or
serious injury.

SAFETY
Before restarting a Grain Spreader that has been stopped because of an emergency,
an inspection shall be made and the cause of the stoppage determined. The starting
device shall be locked or tagged out before any attempt is made to remove the cause
of the stoppage.
IMPORTANT! A LOCKOUT device should be installed at the time of the Grain
Spreader installation to prevent the machine from starting during a
safety check, maintenance, etc. Lockable disconnect switches should
open control enclosures containing hazardous voltage wiring.
All electrical equipment shall be grounded. Ground all non-current carrying metal
parts to guard against electrical shock.
Rotating Parts
CAUTION! Because of the danger of flying debris, protective eyewear/safety
glasses MUST be worn during assembly, installation, maintenance or
servicing of this Grain Spreader. Failure to do so may result in minor or
moderate injury.
Never remove, cut, modify or damage Grain Spreader components. Keep hands, feet,
hair, and clothing away from power-driven parts in motion. Never wear loose-fitting
clothing or flowing scarves/jewelry around moving parts or equipment.
Other Hazards
CAUTION! DO NOT ATTACH any other item to any part of this Spreader. To do so
may cause damage to the Grain Bin and Spreader, and/or may result in
minor to moderate injury.
There are Suffocation Hazards in Flowing Grain!
DANGER! Be aware that where Grain Spreaders are installed in conjunction with
Grain Bins, there are other hazards involved. ONLY AUTHORIZED
PERSONNEL should enter a Grain Bin area. You CAN suffocate under
material in a Grain Bin/Tank. Entry into ANY Grain Bin is a potential hazard.
DANGER! NEVER enter the Tank during loading or unloading. Failure to follow
these instructions will lead to death or serious injury.
Flowing material may trap and suffocate, as shown in Figures 3 and 4.

Hang the Grain Spreader


IMPORTANT! The grain flow must be centered into the TOP of the Spreader to help
maintain a more even grain distribution into the Bin.
NOTE: See page 18 if your fill rate is less than 2000 bu/hr.
Suspend the Spreader from the Fillhole Collar by the four (4) Hanger Brackets.
IMPORTANT! After installation, check to make sure the Spreader is LEVEL. If needed,
adjust by loosening the bolts securing the hanger brackets to the
Spreader Extension Arms.
Farm Bin Installations to the Fillhole
Both 3000-bph Models and 6000-bph Models can be installed on Farm Bin Collars.
Hang each Hanger Bracket over the top of the inner collar webbing. See Figure 10.

DANGER! Disconnect electrical power BEFORE inspecting or servicing equipment.
Do not allow the Grain Spreader to run while any adjustments are being
made. Failure to do so will result in death or serious injury. Protective
gloves should be worn during assembly of this piece of equipment.
DANGER! Electricity can kill! Installations MUST be done by a certified/licensed
electrician, in accordance with all national, state and local electrical
SAFETY codes. Failure to follow this instruction will result in death or
serious injury. Do not jeopardize your BROCK® Grain Spreader
Warranty with improper electrical installation!
Contact your power provider before installation. They can determine if any
adjustments in their lines will be necessary to accommodate the Grain Spreader.
IMPORTANT! All electrical wiring MUST be done by a qualified electrician and all
components must meet the National Fire Protection Association
Standard NFPA No. 70, American National Standard Inst. ANSI-C1, and
all applicable local requirements.

Adjust Center Fill with Slide Covers


Make adjustments to the Center Fill Slide Cover as needed per Bin size. By
loosening the two (2) 5/16'' Wing Nuts (Item 18) above the Covers (Item 9), slide the
slot adjustment OPEN for a greater fill. See Figure 16 below.

Optional Spreader Inlet Cone SIC-3 (GS-3X Only)


This option can be used when the bin fill-rate is less than 2000 bu/hr. The Inlet Cone
will help center the grain over the Motor, thus allowing the Bin to be filled evenly.
Using the Two-Piece Support Arms (Items 38,39), position the Inlet Cone as shown
in Figure 17. Attach the Centering Guides (Item 40) at the location shown near the
bottom of the outer Cone.

Maintenance and Service

SAFETY Reminders
Service and maintenance of the Grain Spreader must be done only by a qualified
technician.

DISCONNECT POWER prior to maintaining or cleaning the Spreader!

DANGER! Electricity can kill! Startup checks MUST be done with the MAIN
POWER LOCKED OUT. Failure to follow these instructions will result in
serious injury or death.
CAUTION! Because of the danger of falling or flying debris, protective eyewear/
safety glasses MUST be worn during assembly, installation,
maintenance or servicing of this Grain Spreader. Failure to do so may
result in minor or moderate injury.

Check electrical components and connections.

Inspection
Before restarting a Grain Spreader that has been stopped because of an emergency,
inspect it to determine the cause of the stoppage. The starting device should be
locked or tagged out before any attempt is made to remove the cause of the stoppage.

DANGER! Electricity can kill! Inspections MUST be done with the unit shut OFF
and the MAIN POWER LOCKED OUT. Failure to follow these
instructions will result in serious injury or death. With MAIN POWER
LOCKED OUT, inspect electrical controls and wire connections for
TIGHTNESS.
• Check all hardware, electrical controls and wire connections for tightness.
Tighten any loose hardware, and/or electrical fittings.
• Check inside the unit for loose objects.
Reconnect the Main Power when tests are completed.
