Reflection Paper: The Living Word of God in My Life

It was months ago already that I encountered this gospel and that really opened my thought
in so many things, it was from Luke 17:11-19. It was the story of how Jesus healed ten men who
had leprosy. It is about giving thanks and grattitude. I was attending a Sunday mass when i
encountered the gospel. The precider mentioned about how important it is to show gratitude and
putting emphasis on expressing our thanks.
All my life, what I believed was, family are the people that will always have our back and
that no matter what we ask from them they provide it for us and will not ask or want something
from us in return, its like each member is obligated to be there for each other, to help in times of
need, and I admit I sometimes took it for granted. I took granted a lot of things in my family.
When my father provide me the things that I want, from clothes, shoes, spending money to
celebrate my birthday every year with my friends, how he is the only one who provide income
for the family to provide our physiological needs, how he supported me in my studies and to
almost everything I do. To my mother who always took care of us, who always woke up early in
the morning to cook for us so we’ll have the energy we need for the whole day, for being there
when she is needed. Also with my brothers, who, for me are my forever best friends, trying their
best to become a good brother to me, even if we don’t show our affection to each other but we
know in our hearts that we love each other and that we always have each others backs. In these
moments, I sometimes don’t say thank you or show my grattitude towards them, because I
thought that its their obligation to take care of me, I sometimes feel that I am entitled to have all
these things, but its not always like that.
That’s what the gospel made me realize, eveything we had are not entitled for us, and that I
should appreciate these things because I am blessed to have something that I did not choose to
be part of but it was given to me by God, a family that is full of love, care and understanding.
Now, I try my best to return their love for me and to let them know that they are very much
appreciated, because I can’t imagine my life even losing one of them.
I hope all of us will realize it within ourselves that we should not take everything or
something for granted because in the first place it is not our right but God’s. we don’t even know
when will be the last time will have all the things we have now, tomrrow is never promised. Its
important to always be grateful give thanks.
