1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The E3/T3 Interface Card is a software selectable plug-in card. There are three E3/T3 ports.
The card is hot-swappable and can be installed in or removed from a Loop-O9500R chassis when the
O9500R device is powered up.

CHAPTER 2 INSTALLATION

2 INSTALLATION

2.1 Mechanical Installation


The E3/T3 interface card will plug into any tributary slot in the O9500R chassis. E3/T3 interface cards are
hot swappable.

2.2 Electrical Installation


All electrical connections are on the backplane. The electrical connections are made when the card is firmly
seated into a tributary slot in the O9500R chassis.

2.3 Configuration Settings


All configurations can be set with keyboard commands via VT-100 monitor. Please refer to Chapter 4, E3/T3
SETUP PROCEDURES.

The E3/T3 card can be set up as either E3 or T3. This chapter provides detailed setup instructions.

Please note that Tributary cards must be registered with the O9500R device or you will not be able to access
their detailed menu screens.

4.1 Menu Tree

4.2 Initial Setup and Card Registration


Prior to setting up an E3/T3 Interface Card you must first set up the main O9500R device. After that setup is
complete go to the main Controller Menu for the O9500R. A sample screen is shown below.

You must register your E3/T3 cards on the O9500R device.

Press N to register the unit (ie. register your card).

Use the Tab key to scroll in the Tributary slot that your E3/T3 card is plugged into. Press the Enter key.

Command : Card Registration


Unit : Trib-3

The model of card will appear. Move the cursor to the Registered Model field and scroll in either the E3, T3,
or T3-M13 setting. Press the Enter key.
Note: Before you register the E3T3 card to T3-M13 mode, be sure to enable the M13 function first in the (K)
M13 setup section under the O9500R controller menu. Command path: O9500R controller menu > (S)
System Config Setup > (K) M13 setup.

A registration prompt will appear as the registration takes place.

If you have other cards to register do it now. Each plug-in interface card must be registered separately.

Change Protection Mode:


To change the protection mode, you do not need to de-register the card. Simply use the command “Change
Protection Mode”. You can change the card’s protection mode from NP (without protection) to PRTD (with
protection), or vise-versa.

Card De-registration:
To de-register a card, please activate the command “Card Un-registration”. The setup procedure is similar to
that of “Card registration”.

Note: If you want to change a registered card from E3 toT3 or vice-versa, you must un-register the card and
re-register it again.

The Unit Menu path for Config Setup is as follows:

E -> TPSG Protection Mode Setup
F -> TPSG Protection Switch Setup
Note: Available in T3 mode only.

V. Full instructions can be found in the O9500R User’s Manual.
