SOCCSKSARGEN
The name is an acronym for the region's four provinces
and one of its cities: South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan
Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City. This region
is often known by its older name Central Mindanao. The
regional center is in Koronadal at the province of South
Cotabato. It is to the south of Bangsamoro (formerly
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao), the Muslim-
majority region of Mindanao.

Cotabato, also known as the Empire Province of
Cotabato, was a historical province of the
Philippines established in 1914 that existed until its
dissolution in 1973. The province's capital from
1920–1967 was Cotabato City (of the same name)
while Pagalungan became itscapital from 1967–1973.

Capital: Isulan
Sultan Kudarat was once a part of the former empire
province of Cotabato. It was created as a
separate province along with Maguindanao and
North Cotabato on November 22, 1973, by virtue of
Presidential Decree No. 341 signed by President
Ferdinand E. Marcos. Hundreds of first class caves
are actually found in this province. The province is
also the top producer of coffee in the Philippines.

The name Sarangani is given to the created
province because of its proximity to Sarangani Bay.
The bay got its name from the two major islands
that lie directly off the southern tip of the Sarangani
Peninsula which borders the bay on its east side.
