Summary

A year in Reigen's life told through the four seasons.

in the summer he was bright. the color of sunflowers, of soft fuzzy bees. his student would visit
him nearly everyday. never alone, never lonely. he would grin and laugh as the sunlight filtered
through the window. each day was filled with heat and cold fresh drinks. there was always enough
time. no homework, no tests. no studying, no stress. he could spend time with his student and his
brother and their friends whenever he felt empty. with the song of the cicadas, summer was the
season of joy and freedom.

in autumn he was filled with calm. even as the flora and fauna lost their color, he could smile
lovingly at the red orange brown leaves that littered the ground. there was a chill in the air, a sense
of mystery and nostalgia. the scary movies would be churned out one after the other. there would
be pumpkins and cobwebs and skeletons too. the frost was approaching, but not yet. rather than
think of it as the dead and the dying, autumn was made of change and possibilities.

during winter he was tired. though the pure white snow and bright holiday lights tinted the world
with shades of red and green, his days were filled with exhaustion mixed into mugs full of black
coffee. families were reunited, kitchens were filled with the smell of recipes passed down from
generation to generation. the dining rooms were never empty and relatives revisited childhood
memories. he would sit at his office, usually empty, and wait for his student to visit again. winter
was the season of longing and loneliness.

with spring came the renewal of life, and he was happy once more. there were greens and purples
and blues and yellows and every other color of the rainbow. the grass was newly grown; the birds
were returning from their long quest for warmth. every time he stepped outside, he could smell the
freshness of the world through the smoke and gas of the city. though his students were still in
 school, he felt less hollow than before. no longer having to watch as families laughed together was
a blessing to his peace of mind. spring was stitched together with hopes and dreams and the
promise of summer.
