Title: Circles and its Application

Direction: Show your solution and box the final answer and graph it using graphing paper and attached it
on the template.

I. Write the standard and general equation of the circle and show the graph.

1. With center at (2,-3) , radius 5

2. With center at (4,-1) , radius 6

3. With radius “a” and touching both axes.

4. With center at (2a, a) and touching the y-axis.

5. With the points (2,5), (6,-1) as the end of its diameter.

6. Through (2,3) (3,4) and (1,-2)

7. Through (3,1) (5,3) and (-3,-1)

8. Circumscribing the triangle with vertices (a,0), (a,a) and (0,2a)

9. Having the radius Square root of 85, through (5,9) and (1,-7)

10. Touching the line x+2y=8 at (0,4) and passing through (3,7)

II. Problem solving: show the illustration and the solution to each problem and box the final answer.

12. The lines y=4x/3−5/3 and y=−4x/3−13/3 each contain diameters of a circle, and the point (−5,0) is
also on that circle. Find the equation of this circle.

13. Find the value of k for which the equation x2 + y2 + 4x – 2y – k = 0 represents a point circle.

14. A circle is described by the equation x^2 + y^2 – 16x = 0. What is the length of the chord which is 4
units from the center of the circle?

15. Two circles have equations of X^2 + y^2 – 4x – 4y + 4 = 0 and X^2 + y^2 – 4x + 8y + 4 = 0. Find the
distance between the centers of the two circles.

16. A circle has its center at (3,-2) is tangent to the line 3x + 4y – 26 = 0. Compute the equation of the
circle.
17. A triangle has its sides having equation equal to x + 2y – 5 = 0, 2x – y – 10 = 0 and 2x + y + 2 = 0. Find
the area of the circle inscribed in the triangle.

18. A circle has an equation of x^2 + y^2 = 25. Find the equation to the tangent to a circle having a slope
of 1 at the 2nd quadrant.

19. From the equation of a circle given by: , determine the value of
“a” needed to make the conic section to become a point circle.
