Skill Definition List

Strength Skills
This is usually any attempt to lift, push, pull, or break something. also includes trying to force your body through a space or to otherwise
apply brute force to a situation
Athletics Covers difficult situations you encounter while climbing, jumping, or swimming. Examples:
• Attempting to climb a sheer or slippery cliff
• Avoid hazards while scaling a wall
• Cling to a surface while something is trying to knock you off
• Jump an unusually long distance or pull off a stunt mid-jump
• Swimming or staying afloat in treacherous currents, stormy waves, and/or thick seaweed.
• Staying afloat while another creature tries to push or pull you underwater or stop you from
swimming
General Strength Checks Examples:
• Force open a stuck, locked, or barred door
• Break free of bonds
• Push through a tunnel that is too small
• Hang onto a wagon while being dragged behind it
• Tip over a heavy statue
• Keep a boulder from rolling

Other things Strength determines:


• Carrying Capacity
• Pushing, Dragging, or Lifting
• Being Encumbered

Dexterity Skills
An attempt to move nimbly, quickly, or quietly, or to keep from falling on tricky footing.
Acrobatics Covers attempts to stay on your feet in a tricky situation. Examples:
• Trying to run across a sheet of ice
• Balance on a tightrope
• Stay upright on a rocking ship's deck
• Performing acrobatic stunts like dives, rolls, somersaults, and flips
Sleight of Hand Whenever you attempt a skillful use of one's hands and manual trickery. Example:
• Planting an object on something or someone
• Concealing an object on your person
• Taking a coin purse off someone's person
• Slipping something out of someone's pocket
Stealth Whenever you attempt to conceal yourself. Examples:
• Hide from enemies
• Sneak past guards
• Slip away without being noticed
• Sneak up on someone without being seen or heard
General Dexterity Examples:
• Control a heavy, runaway cart
Checks • Steer a cart around a tight turn
• Securely tie up a prisoner
• Wriggle free of bonds
• Play a stringed instrument
• Craft a small or detailed object
• Picking a Lock
• Disabling a trap
Intelligence Skills
An attempt at draw on logic, education, memory, or deductive reasoning.
Arcana Ability to recall lore about spells, magic items, eerie symbols, magical traditions, the planes of existence,
and the inhabitants of those planes.
History Ability to recall lore about historical events, legendary people, ancient kingdoms, past disputes, recent
wars, and lost civilizations.
Investigation Ability to look around for clues and make deductions based on those clues. Example:
• Deduce the location of a hidden object
• Analyze a wound's appearance and determine what kind of weapon made it
• Determine the weaken point in a tunnel that could cause it to collapse
• Searching through a scroll for a hidden fragment of knowledge
Nature Ability to recall lore about terrain, plants, animals, the weather, and natural cycles.

Religion Ability to recall lore about deities, rites, prayers, religious hierarchies, holy symbols, and the practices of
secret cults.
General Intelligence Examples:
• Communicate with a creature without using words
Checks • Estimate the value of a precious item
• Pull together a disguise to pass as a city guard
• Forge a document
• Recall lore about a craft or trade
• Win a game of trivia

Wisdom Skills
Ability to read body language, understand someone's feelings, notice things about the environment, or care for an injured person.
Animal Handling Whenever you are trying to control or influence an animal. Examples:
• Calm down a domestic animal
• Keep a mount from getting spooked
• Understand an animal's intentions
• Controlling your mount during a risky maneuver.
Insight Whenever you are trying to determine the true intentions of a creature. Example:
• Seeing if someone is lying
• Predicting someone's next move
• Reading someone's body language: Movements, speech habits, and changes in mannerisms
Medicine Ability to let you try to stabilize a dying companion or diagnose an illness.

Perception Ability to spot, hear, or otherwise detect the presence of something. Measures general awareness of your
surroundings and the keenness of your senses. Example:
• Hear a conversation through a closed door
• Eavesdrop under a window
• Hear monsters moving stealthily in the forest
• Spot something that is obscured or easily missed
Survival Whenever you are trying to do something that involves an attunement to nature. Examples:
• Follow Tracks
• Hunt wild game
• Guide your group through frozen wastelands
• Identify signs of animals living nearby
• Predict the weather
• Identify and avoid quicksand or other natural hazards
• Build a campfire in the rain
General Wisdom Skills Examples:
• Get a gut feeling about which course of action to take
• Determine if a seemingly dead or living creature is undead
Charisma Skills
Ability to interact effectively with others.
Deception Whether you can convincingly hide the truth either verbally or through your actions. Example:
• Fast-talking a guard
• Conning a merchant
• Earning money through gambling
• Pass yourself off in a disguise
• Dull someone's suspicion with false assurances
• Maintain a straight face while telling a blatant lie
Intimidation When attempting to influence someone through threats, hostile actions, or physical violence. Examples:
• Trying to pry information out of a prisoner
• Convincing street thugs to back down from a confrontation
• Using the edge of a broken bottle to convince someone to reconsider their decision
Performance Ability to delight an audience with music, dancing, acting , storytellings, or other form of entertainment.
Examples:
• Singing a song
• Dancing on a table as a distraction
• Entertaining bandits
Persuasion Whenever you attempt to influence someone or a group with tact, social graces, or good nature. Examples:
• Acting in good faith
• Fostering friendships
• Make civil requests
• Showing proper etiquette
• Convincing chamberlain to let your party to see the king
• Negotiating peace between warring tribes
• Inspiring a crowd of townsfolk
General Charisma Examples:
• To find the best person to talk to for news, rumors, and gossip
Checks • Blend into a crown to get the sense of key topics of conversations.

Constitution Skills
An attempt to push yourself beyond normal limits
General Constitution Example:
• Holding your breath
Checks • Travel or work for hours with no rest
• Go without sleep
• Survive without food or water
• Chug a stein of ale in one shot
