Working on the use of calcium and magnesium in 1973 for purposes other than the handling of drug
reactions, I found a means of getting calcium into solution in the body along with magnesium so that
the benefits of both could be achieved. The answer was to add vinegar, which would provide the
acidic formula needed.
The result was a solution which proved to be highly effective, which was named the “CalMag
Formula.”
CALCIUM-MAGNESIUM RATIO (note: this has been changed by me to a one to one cal/mag ratio
see file titled updates to the book)
The proven ratio used in the Cal-Mag Formula is one part elemental magnesium to two parts
elemental calcium.
As the Cal-Mag Formula calls for precise amounts of these elemental substances, some further
explanation of these quantities should be given here.
The Cal-Mag Formula is made using the compounds calcium gluconate and magnesium carbonate.
Both of these come in white, powdery form. Each is a compound of different substances. In other
words, calcium gluconate contains other substances besides calcium; it is not all pure calcium but
contains only a percentage of pure elemental calcium. Similarly, magnesium carbonate contains other
substances besides magnesium, and includes only a percentage of pure elemental magnesium.
But it is the amount of elemental magnesium in correct ratio to the amount of elemental calcium that
is important in the preparation of the Cal-Mag Formula. This does not, not, not mean that you use
pure magnesium or pure calcium when you make Cal-Mag. Use only calcium gluconate and
magnesium carbonate.
Magnesium Carbonate: The desired compound for Cal-Magr called magnesium carbonate basic,
contains 29 percent magnesium. (This compound is also sometimes called magnesium alba.)
There are different magnesium compounds with different percentages of elemental magnesium, but
using any kind other than that recommended here will give varying amounts of magnesium which
will violate the needed ratio of one part magnesium to two parts calcium.
It is magnesium carbonate basic, containing 29 percent elemental magnesium which is used in
making Cal-Mag. And it is essential to ensure that the magnesium carbonate basic which is used is
fresh, not old.
Calcium Gluconate: There is only one kind of calcium gluconate compound and 9 percent of that
compound is calcium, so there is no problem in selecting the correct calcium gluconate compound
for the Cal-Mag preparation.
Hubbard also emphasizes that the Cal-Mag should be taken with something acidic -- such as vinegar
or lemon juice -- added to a glass of water.
Silica. I also take other chelators like chlorella, kelp, and vitamins C, E, multivitamins,
calcium/magnesium from algae, milk thistle seed extract, curcumin, systemic enzymes.. I take all
those things at once in the morning with lots of distilled water, and than go in the sauna for
45minutes 1 hour after.

Niacin 100 mg on day 1
.it took me until day 18 to build up to 1000 mg per day. Generally increased 100 mg each day if my
flush intensity decreased from the previous day. This was per Anita's directions as you check in her
on a daily basis via email questionnaire. After day 18 at 1000 mg, the niacin doses was increased at
500 mg per day. So from 1000 to 1500.....and would stay at 1500 until my flush was minimal, at
which point it would go up another 500 mg to 2000......same routine until day 27 at 3000 mg. I was
done at day 27.
I didn't do any binders until about day 12. At that point, I was doing bentonite clay, chlorella and
organic strawberries.
Potassium intake 500mg per day. The dosing chart said to take 300mg per day, but Bret also
personally recommended 800 per day, so I found a happy medium. I never suffered brain fog before,
during or after the protocol.

Does this mean I take 1500calcium/1500magnesium or the other way around 750 calcium/750
magnesium?
The only way to stay properly hydrated is to get enough potassium which 97% of people fail to do.
You have to take at least a gram of supplemental potassium daily. The RDA is 4700 mg.

For headaches try to up your electrolyte intake, esp magnesium, potassium, and sea salt (or
NaCl/sodium bicarbonate, but sea salt is more complex). If headaches persist, try ordering a bit of
riboflavin vitamin B2 (cheap). Synthesis of niacin containing coenzymes from the amino acid
tryptophan requires riboflavin dependent enzymes. Riboflavin defiency slows the conversion of
niacin containing enzymes, increasing the risk of functional niacin deficiency. Essentially, riboflavin
is a cofactor for niacin metabolism, and is also a studied and documented nutrient to improve
migraine headaches. I'm not an expert, just sharing personal experience and information I've read on
the Linus Pauling Institute website.

I'm not following your exact protocol, so sorry. Sauna is regular not FIR but may be adding FIR
heater. Sleep is a struggle now because of my pain but usually at least 5-6 hours. Using yours and my
doctors recommendations.
Yes, up to 300 mg niacin then 15-20 min later exercise (walking only) for 15-30 min then sauna 1
hour. Break with cold shower. Get in sauna again around 3 hour mark for 1 hour but usually not
exercising again before 2nd sauna. Taking electrolytes and minerals. 1000 mg liposomal vitamin c
before and after. Rotate charcoal and chlorella. Plenty of water. Eat very clean lots of veggies. 300
mg niacin now. Seem ok with niacin some stomach upset I think. I'm so sensitive I really can't add
too much more. I have so many issues and this seems to be tolerable thus far. Had a colonic this
week too which helped. Thank you.
Dr. Sherry Rogers in her book Detoxify or Die recommends several supplements that you should
have on hand before you sauna and one of them is Tri salts and they sell on Iherb. If you are already
low BP, you may be dealing with adrenal fatigue and may need to support your adrenals more. The
Bioplasma tissue salts are good too.

Hemp oils will help to capture fat-soluble toxins because it is high in polyunsaturated fats at 79%.
Adding a small amount of bentonite clay several times a day can also help to capture toxins.

wean yourself off of the supplements by stopping the niacin completely and taking 1/2 of all of the
other supplements the next day and 1/4 the amount on the day after.

along with iodine
Dr. Brown steins iodine protocol. Also some iodine groups on Facebook. Watch some Dr. Brown
stein video on YouTube. Very good info on the importance of iodine and other halides that compete
over iodine. Toxic halides like Bromide, fluoride, and chlorine.
1 drop of lugols 2%. That equals 2.5 MG. Then do that for a week or so and then go to 2 drops which
is 5 MG. Guage how you feel everytime you increase. Decrease the next day if you feel detox
symptoms.
started iodine low and slow. When supplement with iodine, it can cause a detox. Some start right at
50mg, but I was too scared. I did have some detox days when I increase dosage to quickly. I'm up to
50 MG now. Doing mainly for over thyroid health as I was having hypo symptoms.
