Preface
Due to the particularity of this internship experience we feel obligated to give some more explanations
regarding the process of internship from its first stage. The first stage started on May 25 th 2015 and was
called Introductory day. In an introductory we were introduced multiple sections working in SBOS MICS
Secretariat, Data Processing , Publication , Agriculture, Social Statistics & Industries and about history,
introduction and objectives of Bureau of Statistics .The Bureau of Statistics was setup in 1970 as an
attached department of the Planning & Development Department with the objective of collection,
compilation, tabulation and dissemination of statistical data on socio-economic sectors of Sindh
Province for the use of planners, policy makers and researchers. To collect data from field, Bureau setup
a network of 41 Field offices at Division / District / Sub Division level throughout Sindh. The report will
follow a chronological order based on the events which have taken place during different periods of

INTRODUCTION:

BUREAU OF STATISTICS was established in 1970 as an attached PLANNING and DEVELOPMENT


DEPARTMENT. It consist main objective as COLLECTION, COMPILATION AND TABULATION of statistical
data on social economic of provinces for the uses of policy makers, planners and researchers.  To collect
data from field, Bureau setup a network of 41 Field offices at Division / District / Sub Division level
throughout Sindh. We hope you will find the information and statistics in this website useful. Your
comments and suggestions on the contents of the website as well as our statistical services are always
welcome.

ACTIVITY ON DUTY:
Official Duty Activities are those activities performed by an employee as part of, or an extension of,
regular official responsibilities. The activities an employee performs must be related to his/her
official duties.

Conduct surveys for making their reports.

Contacts between federal and provincial government for statistical analysis.

Preparation of basic socio-economic indicators for provinces

Do Electronic data processing.

Provision of statistically sound and reliable data for researcher, policy makers, planners and
Government.

POSITION OF STAFF:
HEAD OFFICE:

The head office of the organization is in Karachi with section strength of more than 400 employees.

FIELD OFFICE:

Bureau of statistics have 41 field offices in whole Sindh other than head office. The Organizational

SECTION OF HEAD OFFICE:


ADMINISTRATION:

Administration play an important role in any of the organization to deal staff punctuality,
Officers/officials discipline matters on various aspects like pension, Non Objection Certificates,
Leaves record etc. It play a crucial role in any of the organization success.
AGRICULTURE:

Collection of data from different agriculture department .The agricultural sector continues to play a
crucial role for development, especially in Low-income countries where the sector is large both in terms
of aggregate income and total labor, crops, fishery, forestry and livestock etc.

BUDGET AND CASH:

An estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time. A budget report gives a snapshot of the
financial performance of a department and expected expenditure in future.

DATA PROCESSING:

Data processing means manipulation of data by a computer. Data processing functions include:


Validation-ensuring that the data is correct and relevant. Sorting-arranging items in
sequence. ... Analysis -collection, organization, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data.

STAGES OF DATA PROCESSING.


COLLECTION:

The collection process needs to ensure that the data gathered are both defined and accurate, so that
subsequent decisions based on the findings are valid. This stage provides both the baseline from which
to measure, and a target on what to improve.

PREPERATION:

 Preparation is about constructing a dataset from one or more data sources to be used for further
exploration and processing. Analyzing data that has not been carefully screened for problems can
produce highly misleading results that are heavily dependent on the quality of data prepared.

INPUT:

Data entry is done through the use of a keyboard, digitizer, scanner, or data entry from an existing
source. This time-consuming process requires speed and accuracy. Most data need to follow a formal
and strict syntax since a great deal of processing power is required to breakdown the complex data at
this stage. Due to the costs, many businesses are resorting to outsource this stage.

PROCESSING:

When the data is subjected to various means and methods of manipulation, the point where a computer
program is being executed, and it contains the program code and its current activity. The process may
be made up of multiple threads of execution that simultaneously execute instructions, depending on
the operating system.

OUTPUT AND INTERPRETATION:

Is the stage where processed information is now transmitted to the user? Output is presented to users
in various report formats like printed report, audio, video, or on monitor. Output need to be interpreted
so that it can provide meaningful information that will guide future decisions of the company.

STORAGE:

Where data, instruction and information are held for future use. The importance of this cycle is that it
allows quick access and retrieval of the processed information, allowing it to be passed on to the next
stage directly, when needed. Every computer uses storage to hold system and application software.

FIELD OPERATION:
Field operation section working on an infrastructure and strengthen of all field office located in whole
Sindh. The matters involved and looking after demolished, restructuring and occupying offices after 18 th
amendment.

INDUSTRIES:

Form of economic branch and commercial activity. An industry is the production of goods or


related services within an economy. The major source of revenue of a group or company is the
indicator of its relevant industry. When a large group has multiple sources of revenue generation, it
is considered to be working in different industries.

PUBLICATION AND CO-ORDINATION:

Collection of data from different departments and sections and further analyses and interpretate it
before publishing. The process of academic publishing, which begins when authors submit a
manuscript to a publisher, is divided into two distinct phases: peer review and production. ... The
author will review and correct proofs at one or more stages in the production process.

REGIONAL ACCOUNTS:

Regional account section working on Provincial economic estimates.

MICS SECRETARIATE:

Mics is an international household survey to collect data on various socio-economic section like women
and children.

SOCIAL STATISTICS:

Working on Education, Health, population, crime, road and transport and data related to public finance.

SYSTEM OF BUREAU:
Firstly the technically leading sections collecting data on social statistics, Industries and agriculture and
after this data going in a second phase of data processing and last it will review analyze and publish in a
publication and coordination section.

CHILD LABOUR SURVEY:


Summary of findings of a child labour survey conducted in Pakistan by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, in
collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis and the ILO in 1996.

 According to the survey, 3.3 million of the 40 million children were found to be economically
active on a full-time basis.

 Of the 3.3 million working children, 73 percent (2.4 million) were boys and 27 percent (0.9
million) were girls.

 Officially children made up about seven percent of the total work force according to the findings
of the survey.
STRUCTURE:
Summary

The department Bureau of Statistics was setup in 1970 as an attached department of the Planning &
Development Department with the objective of collection, compilation, tabulation and dissemination of
statistical data on socio-economic sectors of Sindh Province for the use of planners, policy makers and
researchers

The main objectives of this department is collection, compilation, tabulation and dissemination of
statistical data on socio-economic sectors of Sindh Province for the use of planners, policy makers and
researchers. To collect data from field, Bureau setup a network of 41 Field offices at Division / District /
Sub Division level throughout Sindh

The basic aims of this department aims to provide Statistics covering various social and economic
aspects of Sindh. With strict adherence to integrity and objectivity, BOS is committed to providing high-
quality statistical services meeting International and domestic requirements.

The sections of this department are Industries, social statistics, Agriculture, Data processing and
Publication and Coordination.

The Function of BOS is to Conduct surveys and prepare their reports. Acting as liaison between Federal
and Provincial Government on statistical matters. Extending technical guidance and assistance to other
provincial statistical cells as and when required with reference to their technical problems in designing
and conducting censuses and surveys, processing of data and preparing their reports. Preparation of
basic socio-economic indicators of the Province. Acting as electronic data processing agency for
statistical requirements of the Provincial Government.
