PART 1. Using a food label of your choice. Answer the following. (8 pts)

With your label, find the following information about the macronutrients. (3pts)

Grams of carbohydrate (less dietary fiber) per serving 2

Grams of protein per serving 7g
Grams of fat per serving 16 g

Each of these nutrients supplies energy. Calculate the Caloric content from each nutrient, and then determine the total
Calories per serving. (4pts)
2 Grams of carbohydrate x 4 Calories/gram = 8 Carb Calories

7 Grams of protein x 4 Calories/gram = 28 Protein Calories

16 Grams of fat x 9 Calories/gram = 144 Fat Calories

180 Total Calories

Convert to calories and Joules (3pts)

Calories: 180 g Joules: 753.120 J
calories : 180, 000 calories / 180 kcal

−(Cwater )(masswater )(Tfwater−Tiwater)

Cmetal =
(massmetal)(Tfmetal−Timetal)
= (4.2 J/g°C )(60 g)(5.20 ℃ ) / (45 g)(74.8°C)
= 1310.4 / 3366
= 0.39 J
12. Identify the unknown metal I. Use Table 1. (2pts) Copper
14. Plot time (x-axis) vs. temperature assuming we have the following data. Label properly (3 pts.)

B. NEUTRALIZATION REACTION BETWEEN BASE AND ACID

1. Open the “Solutions menu” under the beaker and select Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)
2. Using mass slider, set amount of NaOH to 55 grams and 0.500 Molarity
3. Temperature is automatically set to 273 Kelvin.
4. Open the “Solutions menu” under the calorimeter and Hydrochloric acid or HCl.
5. Set amount of HCl to 55 grams and 0.500 Molarity.
6. Temperature is automatically set to 273 Kelvin
7. In the “run experiment” box, select “show graph view” and “show microscopic view”
8. Run experiment.
9. Record the temperature reading from the calorimeter 23.41 °C.

q
∆ Hneutralization =
mol H +¿ ¿
=787.71 J / 1.2 x 10-2 mole
=9.45 J/ mol

GENERALIZATION: (5pts)
We saw here the change in energy in order to see the heat of reaction (enthalpy) in order to produce a reaction. In
the calorimetry, we saw in the microscopic view that the metal particles and the water particles are not joining. As
the temperature is increasing, the water particles are moving faster while the metal particles stayed as is since it’s
at solid phase and the particles of the two are not mixing and I think that it means that the temperature is not
enough to change the phase of the metal but it is enough to increase the energy of the water particles.
