Format of the group project and final exam of the Course

“Methodology and Informatics for Sustainability Science 2020”

Overview
 The final examination is based on Group project.
 Group members have already been assigned in advance.
 Your missions are:
o to work with group members;
o to create a group report;
o to make a group presentation.

Important date
1) By 07 Jul. 2020: Submit report and presentation files and materials.
2) On 08 and 09 Jul. 2020 Presentation (Final exam)

I. Group project -Full report-

1.1. Grouping
Students assigned randomly into 9 groups with consist of 9 members from each program.
The lists of group member are show in Appendix at the end of document.

1.2. Task of student

Each student in each group needs to complete the following task for the group project as follows.
a) Group work
- Select the topics among those given by lectures (see Topic of final exam presentation), allocate roles to
the group members.
- Design structure and framework of the full-text report of the group project. Each group brainstorms to
design the draft structure/outline/of the group project and update, formalize and complete the outline. The
member of the group chooses and writes the relevant content of the group project report. Then members
discuss on the logical and contents, each student updates, finalizes and completes the contents logically,
systematically.
b) Activity by individual student
- Design structure and framework of the full text report of group project;
- Write each part of the full text group report. of group project.

See the Appendix 1 at the end of this document.

1.4. Full text material of group project
The full text should be submitted by 07 Jul. 2020. Send to KOTERA: akotera@gmail.com
At the final page of the full text report, indicate who designed the draft structure/outline, who complete the
outline, who made each part etc.

1.5. Quotations
All non-original contents, figures, tables, data, manuscript in the presentation must be citied its original
sources appropriately.
Plagiarism will be strictly checked. In case that malicious plagiarism is found, the exam of the group
members will be cancelled immediately.

1.6. Grading system

The activities of each student assessed based on: 1) the structure, logical frame work of the full text report of
each group project; 2) content written by each student in the full text report of group project.
a) Teamwork: all the students of one group have the same grade

b) Activities by individual student
- Content written by each student the full text report of group project;

II. Final exam-The presentation day-

1) 07 Jul. 2020: Submit presentation file and materials to distribute to reviewers.
2) 08 and 09 Jul. 2020: Presentation

The same group as in group project.

Presentation: Within 10 mins

2.5. Task of student

Each student in each group needs to complete the following task for the final exam:
a) Group work
- Prepare the power point group presentation with the same topic in the group project work. The presenter
prepares the structure of the power point presentation. Then members discuss on the logical and contents,
each student updates, finalizes and completes the contents logically, systematically. Each member
prepares the content written by the member for the power point presentation considering the contents
prepared by the other member. All the members update, finalize and complete the power point
presentation logically, systematically.
b) Oral presentation
- Presentation is provided by one or two students on behalf of the group.
- Keep your presentation time strictly. Overtime will be not allowed.
c) Q&A session
- Questioner will be assigned randomly by the chairman.
- Each student answers at least one question from the other groups.
- Further questions should be asked after those are done.
- Your question/comment and answer should be made briefly and clearly in order to ensure other question
time.

2.6. Grading system
The activities of each student assessed based on 1) the structure, logical framework of the power point
presentation of each group; 2) content written by each student in the power point presentation; 3) Presentation
by the student on the behalf of the group; 4) Answers to questions from the other group; 5) Questions raised to
the other group; 6) Discussion during the exam.
a) Teamwork: all the students of one group have the same grade
Structure, logical framework and content of the PowerPoint group presentation.
b) Activities by individual student
- Answering the question from the other group;
- Giving the question to the student of the other group;

2.7. Topic of presentation

Use same topic as group project report

2.8. Presentation files and materials

PowerPoint file and materials (if any) should be submitted by 07 Jul. 2020.
Put the page number in each slide.
In case power point presentation was revised after submission, then presenter should notice it during the
presentation.
Other materials are also allowed to be used in the presentation.
Print-out of PowerPoint (Black and white) will be distributed at the presentation.

2.9. Quotations
All non-original contents, figures, tables, data, manuscript in the presentation must be citied its original
sources appropriately.

2.10. Report
At the final page of PowerPoint presentation, indicate who designed the draft structure/outline, who complete
the outline, who made each slide, etc. The group presentation should be revised according to the discussion in
the presentation session, and then submitted. The person in charge is assumed by the power point presentation
final page, if not written elsewise.

2.11. Absence of the final exam

Student who was absent from the final exam can submit an additional report. Choose a topic other than the
topic used by the presentation in your group.

Advice for topic 1

 Identify and introduce from the view of area study (AS), physical Infrastructure (Infrastructure
Engineering), environment issues (Environment Engineering), water issues (climate change and
development-CCD, nano technology- NT), public policy (PP), business administration (BA):
 the factors affecting the sustainability of water resources;
 the solutions for Maintaining water resource sustainability in XXX;
 and draw conclusions that will help broaden the academic discussion.

Advice for topic 2

 Data collection can be conducted online through social networking sites with surveys.
