One of the lactation problems encountered by postpartum mothers is breast engorgement.

This problem was impactful on the mothers’ discomforts, e.g., getting hard, firm, shiny, and
painful breasts, axillary pain, fever, and flat nipples. To babies, they find it harder to latch on to
the breasts and feed well and will have a fever.
This research aimed to find out the effectiveness of cabbage (Brassica oleracea var.
capitata) leaf compress and breast care in reducing breast engorgement of postpartum mothers.
This literature study examined previous studies and relevant textbooks and went through
content analysis. It was then presented in the form of a table and narration.
Results: Cabbages contain antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties that are useful for
widening the capillaries so that the blood flow occurs in the area of the compressed breasts. It
causes the body to reabsorb the excessive fluid in the breasts. Further, breast care is able to
provide a stimulus to expedite breast milk in order to reduce breast engorgement.
Conclusion: Cabbage leaf compress and breast care could reduce breast engorgement of
postpartum mothers.
