General Understanding

Application letter also known as Cover Letter, is a document sent with


your resume to provide additional information on your skills and
experience.

A letter of application typically provides detailed information on why


you are qualified for the job you are applying for.

Your application letter should let the employer know what position you
are applying for, why the employer should select you for an interview
and how you will follow up.
When writing an application letter you should
include :
• First Paragraph : Why you are writing - mention the job
you are applying for and where you found the listing.
• Middle Paragraph : What you have to offer the employer
– mention why your skill and experiences are a good fit
for the job
• Last Paragraph : Say thank you to the manager
for considering you and note how you will follow up

• Opening paragraph is the first impression of a letter.
• This part is very important to pay attention because it will
attract the reader and to make clear on what job you are applying
for.

5. Body of Letter (Middle Paragraph/Message of the letter)
Message of the letter is substance of all matters which is explained in a
letter. Because it is a real purpose, the content must be explained clearly,
briefly, not circumvent and respectfully to provide the reader with plenty of
reasons to invite you to an interview like ;
a. Education
b. Work experience
c. Ability to work with others and / or alone
d. Interest in your field
e. Interest in the company
f. Responsibilities in previous positions

8. Enclosure
In a letter, there is probably a thing should be enclosed or illustrated with the letter.
To enclose a thing along with the letter sent, there should be added word “enclosure”
at underneath left part of the letter. There are some ways to type enclosure, namely :
- Enclosure : Curriculum Vitae.
- Encl. : Curriculum Vitae.

If in a letter, there are more than one kind enclosure, the enclosure must typed one by one.
