DESCRIPTION:
Comments on tensile and ductile characterize of mild steel bar of a specified
steel manufacturers industry. For each investigation take at least three
reading. To minimize the cost, use smaller size bar.

OBJECTIVES:
 Tensile characterize of different steel manufacture industry.
 Ductile characterize of different steel manufacture industry.

COLLECTION OF DATA:
We have taken total number of SIX Rebar in which two rebar of “Mughal
INDUSTRY”, remain four of “Popular INDUSTRY” Out of which 3 rebar’s I have
used for “tensile and %elongation test” and three I have used for “bend test.
Total number of rebar’s = 06
Nominal dia (inch) {0.75} of steel rebar = 03
Nominal dia (inch) {0.5} of steel rebar = 03

SPECIFICATION OF REBAR’S:
All rebar is grade 60 and their ductility is according to ASTM standard. Test for
tensile and ductility characteristic

COMMENTS
REGARDING TENSILE STRENGHT:
According to the specification of the rebar’s it is known to us that the Rebar’s
we have taken are of grade 60, which means that the minimum yield tensile
strength of the Rebar’s should be 60,000 PSI (60KSI) and minimum ultimate
tensile strength of 80,000 PSI (80KSI) According to ASTM 615. According to the
test I have performed on Rebar’s. I have got the values for yield tensile
strength to be (75.23,63.172,67.017) KSI which are greater from 60KSI so it
means that the specifications of Rebar’s given by “MUGHAL AND FF STEEL,
POPULAR COMPANY” are according to ASTM specifications, and also the values
for ultimate tensile strength to be are (103.29, 88.441, 87.6) KSI. Which
satisfies the values of minimum ultimate tensile strength of 80K for the Rebar’s
I have taken under consideration? From my test on Rebar’s, I could say that the
rebar's are according to the criteria they have mentioned that these are grade
60 rebar.

REGARDING DUCTILITY CHARACTERISTICS:

Ductility of the Rebar’s is characterized by its percentage elongation. There is a
specified percentage used for specified Rebar’s nominated by ASTM Standards.
According to ASTM 615, the % elongation for rebar #4 (Grade 60) is 9% while
the percentage elongation for rebar #8 (grade 60) is 8% The tests I have

8
performed on steel rebar’s, after which it shows failure then I joined them one
by one and measures their length and find the % elongation of each specimen.
FOR #4 REBAR:
The % elongation of #4 rebar was 16.9% > 9% Since this rebar fulfilled the
ASTM criteria it means that it possesses good ductility characteristics.
FOR #8 REBAR:
 The % elongation of #8 rebar’s was found to be (15.65, 22.53) % > 8%
since these rebar’s fulfilled the ASTM criteria it means these bars have
good ductility characteristics.

BEND TEST
COMMENTS:
They can easily be change into various shapes without any failure or fracture.
BEND TEST FOR DUCTILITY The bend-test specimen shall withstand being bent
around a pin without cracking on the outside radius of the bent portion. The
bent test should be performed on specimen of sufficient length to ensure free
bending and with apparatus that provides Continuous and uniform application
of force throughout the duration of the bending operation.

LENGTH OF REBAR’S:
To ensure that the test performed well and according to specifications I choose
the rebar’s length 18 inches. I use the two Rebar’s of #2.5 one rebar #4.
Since I have already found the % elongation of Rebar’s which was as per ASTM
STANDARD which means they have proper ductility. Also, after performing the
bend test on Rebar’s and then examining the exterior curvature of the Rebar’s
with naked eye. There were no cracks and fracture developed on Rebar’s so it
means that they are ductile enough to change into various shapes. Result From
my bend test I examine that these Rebar’s shows no cracks on bend so they
possess ductile characteristics.
