The document analyzes data on transportation preferences of students living in two areas, Powai and Nahar Amrit Shakti. It finds that over 50% of students in Powai prefer private transportation, while most students living near their school walk. Students in both areas typically travel 5-15 minutes to school. The conclusion recommends that students in the same areas carpool once every two weeks to reduce carbon emissions by over 46% and also participate monthly in cleaning litter left by others on roads and during activities.

After conducting in-depth research, we have acquired all the above
data, from which it is clear that the majority of people live in Nahar Amrit Shakti and Powai. This has helped us to divide the data into further groups, through which we have arrived at the following conclusions: Among the students who live in Powai, more than 50% prefer private transports. They have various reasons such as comfort, convenience, matches the student’s schedule, the fact that they live far away from school, it’s effective, they reach faster etc. Furthermore, 45% of students say that they travel for about 5 to 15 minutes per day to reach school, while 23 take less than 30 minutes. Among those who do live opposite to school, four out of five walks to school, and 4 take the car. Reasons for this include, “it is easier to reach school”, “I will be late if I use a car due to traffic”, “it improves your physical well-being” and “the school is close and the crossing is safe”, among several others, mostly on the same lines. Additionally, most students from Nahar travel for 5-15 minutes, which is quite similar to Powai. However, the rest are divided almost equally between 16-30 minutes, 31-60 minutes and more than an hour. If at least three people from the same areas were to carpool our carbon footprint would reduce by more than 46%. However, we are well aware that many prefer not to carpool. To make others comfortable we decided that on one Wednesday every fortnight everyone should attempt to carpool, cycle, walk or travel by bus. This makes it a very easy transition for others and will help reduce our carbon footprint. Roadside litter is also a result of travelling and to make our trips greener we must avoid littering anywhere. We propose to clean all the dirt left by others on picnics, hiking, nature walks etc, once a month.
