0INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND

Since emergence of passenger-friendly applications such as Uber, Grab and


student cab in USM campus, rate of university students to choose private car as their
main transportation to lecture or activities inside the main campus is increasing
gradually over the period since 2016. Nowadays, students tend to use private car instead
of walking to school or public transport such as school bus which is free-of-charge.
Students who drive cars to school are increasing undoubtedly, and this is not a good
phenomenon to be seen.

Besides that, most of the students are leading an unhealthy lifestyle in their daily
lives because of less in exercising and also imbalanced diet. Students tend to eat as they
like as being living alone without parents. Due to their busy and compact schedule with
lectures, tutorials, assignments and co-curricular activities which they found they are
difficult to cope with, they make eating as one of a way to release their stress. As another
consequence due to the busy schedule, they could not be able to allocate a certain amount
of time for exercises such as cycling or jogging.

Thus, this ‘Cycling Day” activities is being held mainly to promote a healthier
lifestyle among the students and a better, more pollution-free, sustainable environment
inside our campus. Moreover, this activity is indeed an activity which killing two birds
with one stone as it could reduce traffic jam and also provide convenience simultaneously
for both drivers and students inside the campus.
1.2 VISION

Instill values of cycling among younger towards a better tomorrow.

1.3 MISSION

To promote cycling as one of the daily habits among university students and staff in
advocating for environmental friendliness that will benefit not only the students but also
in aligned with awareness for global issues such as air pollution and global warming.

1.4 OBJECTIVES

1. To promote cycling as an alternative choice for private car driver when having a
short trip.
2. To reduce university student from relying on private car or public transport such as
school bus.
3. To promote cycling as a healthy habit being practiced among students as a part
towards a healthy lifestyle.
4. To reduce car jam inside the campus as part of prevention against car accident.
5. To promote University of Science, Malaysia as a pioneer education institutes which
adhere to cycling habits as one of the main transportation among staff and student.

1.5 LOCATION

The location of the event held will be start at Padang Kawad, USM and will go around
the whole USM main campus.

1.6 TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience for this event is about 120 USM students including local and
international students.
