EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The primary objective of this study is to precisely examine various issues like traffic and
speeding in the streets of JMAMES. Through this investigation, we aim to find solutions to
improve safety within the school premises. This in-depth investigation offers helpful insights into
the behavior and dynamics of traffic flow close to the school by providing a detailed analysis of
the precise position, velocity, and acceleration of each vehicle as it travels through a school
zone.

BACKGROUND

Juan M. Alberto Memorial Elementary School (JMAMES), located in Lanao, Virac,

Catanduanes, has long been a center of educational excellence and considered as the home of
achievers. However, the safety of the school has been challenged by multiple concerns such as
traffic issues and speeding on the street within the area. For the past years, the development
has continued to shape the school, and the streets have become increasingly chaotic. With this,
it has given rise to multiple problems that risk the students and staff that goes to the school.

This study is prepared with the fascinating field of kinematics, a crucial branch of physics
dedicated to understanding the intricate dynamics of objects in motion. Kinematics, in its
essence, focuses on the detailed analysis of an object's motion, disregarding the complex
forces that drive this motion. It provides a invaluable lens through which we can observe
and describe an object's position, velocity, and acceleration as they change over a defined
period of time. Through the lens of kinematics, we gain a profound understanding of how
objects traverse space and time, a foundation that underpins our comprehension of motion
in the physical world.

CASE EVALUATION

The study was conducted on October 4, 2023, at exactly 6:50 AM which takes place at Juan
M. Alberto Memorial Elementary School (JMAMES). The observers conducted a 1-hour
long observation in the street of JMAMES. After carefully monitoring the traffic flow, the
observers noticed a significant contrast in congestion levels before and after the school's flag
ceremony, which commences at 7:30 in the morning. In the early hours, the roads were
relatively clear and unimpeded. However, a noticeable uptick in traffic began to happen as
students began arriving at the school between 7:00 and 8:00, marking the onset of what can be
characterized as the morning rush hour. This temporal transition from a smoother traffic
experience to a more congested one underscores the influence of school timings on local traffic
patterns.

The area was bustling with a variety of vehicles passing through during that hour. Our team
meticulously recorded a total of 633 motorcycles, each with at an average speed of 6.25 meters
per second. Additionally, we observed 685 tricycles passing through the area at an average
speed of 6.56 meters per second. Beside the two, there were also 14 bicycles, pedaling along at
an average speed of 5.35 meters per second.
Also, we noted the presence of 146 cars, each rolling at an average speed of 7.32 meters per
second, contributing to the lively traffic scene. In the midst of this vehicular chaos, there were
also 3 trucks, rumbling through at a speed of 6.29 meters per second. The diverse range of
vehicles, each with its own speed and character, added to the chaotic atmosphere of the area
during that hour.

PROPOSED SOLUTION

The remedies for this case that can aid and enhance the issue and problem at hand
includes various ways. For example, installing speed humps and visible crosswalks in the
vicinity of Juan M. Alberto Memorial School (JMAMES), we can also propose an education
and awareness campaign where we will launch a comprehensive campaign targeting
parents and students at this school. Studies have consistently shown that the presence of
speed humps leads to a decrease in speeding around school zones. Visible crosswalks also
ensure that pedestrians, especially students, are easily seen by drivers, increasing their
safety when crossing the road. Within this solution, we can encourage drivers to slow down
and be more cautious, it also prioritizes the safety of students and encourages responsible
driving behavior. This campaign should include information on the importance of adhering to
speed limits and traffic rules near the school. Moreover, implementing an education and
awareness campaign for parents and students at this school holds significant potential for
enhancing traffic safety. Such campaigns have a proven track record of positively
influencing behavior, encouraging adherence to speed limits and traffic rules. Moreover,
active parental involvement serves as a powerful role model, reinforcing the importance of
safe traffic practices. Educated students, equipped with knowledge about traffic risks, are
more likely to take proactive measures to safeguard themselves. This collective effort
fosters a sense of community responsibility for school zone safety, resulting in a lasting
impact. Informed parents and students are more likely to comply with traffic laws, ensuring a
secure and orderly traffic. Ultimately, implementing these solutions and campaigns at
JMAMES presents a comprehensive approach to cultivating responsible and cautious
behavior in the vicinity and safety of the students at this school.

CONCLUSION

Overall, the rapid and continuous urban development around the school over recent years
has unquestionably led to a significant surge in disorder and chaos within our streets. This
unsettling problem has become a source of great concern, affecting not only the safety and
well-being of our students during their daily commutes but also placing our dedicated staff
members in potentially hazardous situations. Given the gravity of this situation, it is
imperative that swift and decisive action is taken to address these pressing issues, with the
primary goal of ensuring the security and peace of mind of everyone connected to our
school community.
IMPLEMENTATION

These strategies will achieve successful results such as to avoid accidents and injuries to
the student of JMAMES. Safety of the students is the prior of this study. By this, the worry
and anxiety of students and their parents when crossing the road will be minimize and
avoided. A launch campaign should be proposed by orienting and informing the parents,
students and even locals about the issue by the school and barangay officials. Safety of the
students is the prior of this study, by implementing strategies to address the issue will help
to prevent any risks. For instance, launching a campaign should be proposed by orienting
and informing the parents, students and even locals about the issue by the school and
barangay officials. Visible crosswalk and signage at the front of school serves a purpose,
agencies and officials should use thermoplastic tape instead of paint to be able to identify
by the drivers the pedestrian even in a distance. Also, Parents can be a role model and
influence the students, their child, how to properly cross the road and follow the instructions
of enforcers. Parents may instruct their children how to cross the road. Thus, this may
influence the students and gain knowledge in proper crossing the road. These strategies
may help to avoid the risks of the student's life. These strategies will achieve successful
results such as avoiding accidents and injuries to the students of JMAMES. By this, the
worry of students as well as their parents when crossing the road will be minimized and
avoided.
