5.3 Normative Re-educative strategy

Normative Re-educative strategies assume that individuals act in accordance

with social norms and values that influence their acceptance of change (Sullivan,
2012). The nurse leader focuses on individual’s behavioral motivators such as
roles, attitudes, feelings, and their interpersonal relationships as an effective way
to implement change in the health care environment.

Normative Re-educative is a strategy that depends on the culture of the people. People
usually value the norms and the culture in which they are brought up. You can redefine
them and add values to it to make the change. But this cannot happen overnight. If your
deadline is short then you cannot follow this strategy.

Normative re-educative strategy assumes people as a social being and their actions and
behaviors are governed by their values, norms attitudes and organizational culture. So, to
change or add the behaviors required for the organization, change need to be initialized
through a re-educative process in which old norms are replaced by new ones or combined
with new ones.
